Projects Engineer
The Roads Authority (RA) was created by Act No. 3 of 2006 to ensure that public roads are constructed, maintained or rehabilitated at all times; and to advise the Minister, and where appropriate, the Minister responsible for Local Government on the preparation and efficient and effective
implementation of the Annual National Roads Programme.
The Roads Authority (RA)is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant posts:
Projects Engineer ( Grade RA6)
The post istenable at its Headquarters in Lilongwe. The Projects Engineer will be responsible for various technical activities of construction project management of contracts related to Government of Malawi Appropriations and Donors such as EU, WB, ADB, BADEA, Kuwait, JICA among others.
The Projects Engineer will report to the Senior Projects Engineer and will specifically be responsible for:
i) Managing contracted road construction works by providing direction to consultants, contractors and regional projects engineers;
ii) Preparing annual estimates and cash flow demands and developing techniques for prioritizing projects and adjust Regional work plans in accordance with approved budgets;
iii) Checking monthly contractors and payments for accuracy and recommending approval;
iv) Monitoring physical and financial progress on contracts and confirming if quantity of works done
by a contractorcompare favourably with expended and outstanding committed funds for each contract;
v) Confirming variation orders and progress payments;
vi) Preparation of RFPs and bidding documents for services, civil works and goods in accordance with
Government of Malawi and donor /funding agencies rules and guidelines;
vii) Preparation of invitation to tender and letter of invitation for civil works and services respectively
in compliance with Government of Malawi /donor agencies rules and guidelines.
viii) Evaluation of bids and proposals for civil works and services in accordance with rules of selection.
The desired candidate must have the following qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:
i) A Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
ii) At least 3 years’ work experience in construction contracts management.
iii) Good computer literacy.
iv) Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
v) Ability to work in a team environment.
vi) Good communication skills both oral and written.
