Partners in Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH has programs in USA, Haiti, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kazakhstan and Boston.

PIH began working in Malawi in 2007, where today we support the Ministry of Health (MOH) to serve a catchment area of 165,000 through 12 health centers and two hospitals in partnership with our sister organizations. Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo (APZU) is in Neno District.

Position : PROJECT/STUDY LEAD

Reports to: Community Health Director

nCommitment: Full Time (Monday-Friday)

Working Hours: Regular Office Hours (40Hrs/Week)

Location: Neno District, Malawi

 

 

Position Summary

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are important and trusted sources of health-related information, especially in rural communities of low-income countries. PIH/APZU will develop and evaluate an SMS-based educational intervention targeting CHWs working in Neno district.

Proposed intervention include a) card-sorting activities to identify which misconceptions are<br commonly held by CHWs and which misconceptions are most prevalent in their communities, b) develop culturally appropriate, targeted messaging using CHWs preferred messaging styles, and c) disseminate messages to CHWs via text. PIH/APZU will evaluate the intervention using a cluster-randomized trial design with two active arms  one arm focused on COVID-19 misinformation and the second arm focused on mental health messaging.

We therefore seek to recruit a suitably qualified Project/Study Lead to support the implementation of this study. Project activities will include: Managing Mercury Science CHW

Project and study supporting team, Leading the CHW study implementation in line with the study protocols, Reporting project progress to APZU, OnePIH Principle investigators, onePIH cross site study manager and relevant stakeholders, Supporting the collection and storage of study data and Managing financial and other resources for the study

Duties and Responsibilities:

50% project implementation

Work hand-in-hand with APZU Community Health, APZU clinical, Communication, M&E and Research teams to lead implementation of  CHW misinformation project activities according to the -approved plans, protocols and budget
Work with Community Health Worker program to ensure appropriate study participants are identified, oriented and trained
Review, translate and revise data collection tools.
Coordinate the development of messages with relevant Malawi study team ensuring the<br messages are culturally accepted and scientifically sound
Coordinate the data collection, transcription and translation.
Ensuring surveys and interviews re properly done and in-accordance to set timelines
25% project management
As the project manager is in charge with on site management of the project including the budget and work plan
Provide project updates including coordinating monthly review/update meetings.
Liaise on a consistent basis with various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan.
Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed
Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement
Track project costs in order to meet budget, in coordination with APZU finance team and the project leadership team
25% report writing & deliverables development
Provide leadership to ensure that all deliverable requirements are met and timelines followed
Coordinate with Compliance team to ensure that all legal requirements are met, including accurate record-keeping and timely financial reporting
Liaise with Programs, Finance, and Procurement teams to ensure donor requirements are complied with.
Continued follow-up all all study participants and ensuring are retained.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

BSc in Health related program. A Masters Degree will be an added advantage
At least 2 years of research/project management experience
Experience in writing protocols, reports and managing grants
Previous training in Good clinical practice
