Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is implementing a five-year
Participatory Action Research for Greening and Growing Malawi (PAUCHI) Project co-funded by
the European Union and the Malawi Government. LUANAR seeks to recruit a Project Officer and an
Administrative Secretary tenable at Bunda College Campus to enhance effective implementation
of the Project. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be
considered for appointment on contract for the duration of the Project subject to satisfactory
annual performance and availability of funding.

The Project Officer will be responsible to the Project Director in the effective and efficient performance of his or her duties and responsibilities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Facilitate the establishment and operationalization of the PAUCHI Project Office;
b. Facilitate the establishment and management of project information system;
c. Assist the project team in the preparation of periodic technical and financial plans;
d. Facilitate implementation of project activities in liaison with key stakeholders (e.g. Government,
NGOs; UN agencies among others)
e. Assist the project team in the preparation of periodic technical and financial progress reports;
f. Facilitate publicity of the Project and its activities in liaison with the Marketing and Communication
Department of LUANAR;
g. Supervise the Administrative Secretary of the Project in the performance of his or her duties and
responsibilities;
h. Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Director from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONALITY

a. At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Business
Administration, or a related field from an accredited University, those with a Master Degree in the
fields above have an added advantage;
b. At least 5 years’ experience in research or development project management or related work;
c. Must be good in data management and possess analysis skills (e.g. use of statistical software
packages in social sciences among others);
d. Must have proven experience in publishing journal article(s);
e. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint),
multimedia communication tools and information management systems;
f. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision;
g. Experience working in a busy project office environment;
h. Experience working in collaboration with Government, NGOs and UN agencies;
i. Must be proficient in organizational and interpersonal knowledge, skills and practices;
j. Excellent written and oral English communication skills;
k. Proven and demonstrated knowledge and skills in financial and record management;
l. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in group dynamics and conflict resolution;
m. Impeccable integrity; and,
n. Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
