Background

CANCaRe Africa – the Collaborative African Network for Childhood Cancer Care and Research is an active and multi-disciplinary regional childhood cancer network, operational across 10 sites in Malawi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Cameroon, coordinated from Blantyre, Malawi and the Netherlands in collaboration with the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme and the International Society of Pediatric Oncology. The network has a strong track record of publications and implementing pragmatic interventions to improve care and survival of children with cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic, intelligent, pragmatic, reliable and motivated person who will start working as a project manager and participate in ongoing clinical research projects. You will be based in Blantyre, Malawi. A lot of the work with the multi-centre network and steering team is online and requires the ability to work independently. Your responsibilities include coordination of research, data analysis, writing of scientific papers, searching literature, preparing and giving scientific presentations, organising meetings and facilitating advocacy (social media accounts).

There is ample room within the network to assume responsibilities and obtain (research) leadership over current or new projects in the coming years.

Qualifications and experience

Role and Responsibilities

  • M.Sc. or MPH in medicine, social science or a social science / clinical research related field.
  • Proficiency with RedCAP is an advantage.
  • Expertise in statistical methods.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Work experience with implementation science, qualitative methods and clinical research in the medical field is an advantage.
  • Proficiency with word, power point, excel

We offer

  • A 1 – year full time contract, with the expectation to prolong to – at least – 4 four years.
  • Further mentoring and training in leadership skills and research methods if relevant.
  • Co-authorship of papers, preferably leading to a PhD.
  • Salary depending on qualifications and experience.
