The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Project Manager– Climate Smart Education Systems Strategic Capability Initiative under Programme Development and Quality. The Project Manager will work under the supervision of the  Senior Technical Advisor Education and Child Development who will provide technical guidance on quality delivery of the Climate Smart Education initiative focusing on supporting the Ministry of Education  to enhance their capacities to mainstream climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability into education sector plans, budgets, and strategies as well as promoting cross-sectoral coordination on climate and environment-related policy and programming within key ministries.  The position holder will support the MoE to design, implement, monitor, evaluate   and report context relevant climate Smart Education initiatives prioritized by MoE.  The position holder will be part of the multidisciplinary climate and education team with expertise in policy and planning, financing, coordination, data management, infrastructure development skills, school management and curriculum development experience. The position holder will play a key role supporting Ministry of Education think through what support they want from the project to further the integration of climate change into the education sector and drive the delivery of the outputs in the initiative’s workplan.

The role will coordinate the implementation of high-quality Climate Smart Education initiative at policy and other levels ensuring and demonstrating impact for children in both emergency and development programming. The position holder will be expected to facilitate documentation of the process, lessons, and best practices and use evidence to inform better programming of sustainable climate change programs in Malawi. He/she will support with advocacy and influencing, while driving strategic partnerships for identification of new investors in the field of climate change.

The holder will be responsible for effective monitoring of budget management and utilization as well as quality internal and donor reporting to ensure financial prudence, transparency, and accountability. In emergencies the role holder will be responsible for ensuring that Education in Emergencies interventions are designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated based on the INEE standards.

In order to be successful you will bring/have: 

  1. Bachelors’ degree level in Education, Environmental Sciences, and any climate related fields
  2. At least 10 years’ experience working in education, policy and planning, advocacy, coordination, and financing
  3. In-depth knowledge of government and non-government actors and frameworks essential.
  4. Practical experience working within MOE preferred.
  5. Ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders, both domestically and internationally.
  6. Demonstrated program development and proposal writing skills.
  7. Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform.
  8. Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic reports that document program direction and results.
  9. Ability to build, lead, and effectively mentor and supervise multi-talented teams.
  10. Experience initiating programs at national level and interacting with various senior structures.
  11. Ability to represent and negotiate persuasively and diplomatically with multiple and varied government and other key stakeholders.
  12. Ability to develop program briefs for program advocacy and fundraising.
