CARE Malawi has secured funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, locally titled ‘Tiwoloka’. The funding runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2029. CARE Malawi will implement the project in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationists in
Malawi (FAWEMA) and Water Aid.
Therefore, CARE Malawi seeks to recruit well qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions within its USDA funded McGovern dole Food for Education program i.e. Tiwoloka Project in Malawi:
PROJECT FIELD OFFICER – NUTRITION & HEALTH (6)
Position Description
The Project Field Officer – Nutrition & Health will oversee the
implementation of the school feeding program. This role will focus on ensuring that learners receive nutritious meals, and that schools and communities understand the importance of nutrition for health and academic success. The Field Officer will work closely with school staff and Early Childhood Development (ECD) Caregivers, parents, and community stakeholders to promote better nutrition practices and improve children’s overall well-being.
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the school feeding program in assigned schools, ensuring the timely delivery of meals and adherence to nutritional standards.
- Collaborate with local suppliers and stakeholders to procure and manage food supplies for the feeding program.
- Develop and implement nutrition education programs for students, teachers, caregivers and parents, emphasizing healthy eating
practices and the importance of nutrition in child development. - Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school feeding program, including student participation, meal quality, and nutritional
outcomes. - Collect data on program impact, including learner attendance and health indicators, and prepare regular reports for the Nutrition
Program Manager. - Engage parents, community leaders, and local organizations to foster
support for the school feeding program and promote awareness of its benefits. - Organize community events and activities that highlight the importance of nutrition and education.
- Train and support school cooks, teachers, and volunteers on proper
food handling, meal preparation, and hygiene practices to ensure safe and nutritious meals are served. - Provide ongoing mentorship and support to ECD Caregivers, school feeding committees and school staff to enhance the effectiveness of the feeding program.
- Collaborate with other CARE programs, government and other stakeholders to integrate nutritional initiatives with other community development efforts.
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, including meal distribution, nutrition education sessions, and monitoring visits.
Required Education and Experience
- Diploma in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Science, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in nutrition, community development, or education, with a focus on school feeding programs preferred.
- Strong understanding of nutrition and food security issues affecting children in Malawi.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting using relevant software and tools.
- Willingness to work in rural communities.
