CARE Malawi has secured funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, locally titled ‘Tiwoloka’. The funding runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2029. CARE Malawi will implement the project in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationists in
Malawi (FAWEMA) and Water Aid.
Therefore, CARE Malawi seeks to recruit well qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions within its USDA funded McGovern dole Food for Education program i.e. Tiwoloka Project in Malawi:
PROJECT FIELD OFFICER – LIVELIHOODS (6)
Position Description
The Project Field Officer (PFO) will lead the implementation of the Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and Farmer Field Business Schools (FFBS) initiatives. The PFO will work directly with community members to
enhance financial literacy/inclusion and agricultural production practices, ultimately improving livelihoods and fostering sustainable development.
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Mobilize community members to participate in VSLAs and FFBS, fostering an inclusive environment that encourages involvement from women, youth, and marginalized groups.
- Establish and strengthen relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and stakeholders to promote program activities and sustainability.
- Conduct training sessions on VSLA methodologies, financial
management, and agricultural practices tailored to the needs of the community. - Work with government extension workers to provide support and mentorship to VSLA groups and FFBS participants, ensuring they
have the knowledge and tools to manage their activities effectively. - Oversee the formation and operationalization of new VSLAs and FFBS, ensuring compliance with CARE’s standards and best practices.
- Collect and maintain data on the performance and impact of VSLAs and FFBS, including financial records and participant progress.
- Document lessons learned and best practices from the
implementation of VSLAs and FFBS, contributing to ongoing program improvement. - Share insights and recommendations with the Livelihoods Program Manager and the wider CARE team to enhance program effectiveness.
Required Education and Experience
- Diploma in Agriculture, Development Studies, Social Work, Rural Development or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community development, livelihoods programming, or related areas, with a focus on financial inclusion and agricultural training.
- Familiarity with VSLA and FFBS methodologies and their practical application in rural communities.
- Strong facilitation, training, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups effectively.
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting, with experience using relevant software and tools.
- Willingness to work in rural communities.
