What is the opportunity?
Reporting to the Senior Projects Engineer, the Projects Engineer directly supports Water Mission’s vision of providing safe water and an opportunity to share God’s love with all. This position entails providing technical guidance and support to Water Mission Malawi (WMM) assigned Engineering Technicians following the Water Mission Malawi country Program’s established standards and procedures. This is a full-time position that requires residency in Lilongwe, Malawi. The position might require frequent travel to remote locations within Malawi and occasionally outside of Malawi to carry out assessments and to support some of the technical aspects of the organization. As a key leader in Water Mission Malawi,, the Projects Engineer is responsible for leading staff in developing a biblical worldview culture that leads to God honoring excellence in all their work and
to reinforce the following: providing accurate data, empowering staff to have the skills and mindset needed to acknowledge mistakes or problems as opportunities to find appropriate solutions, and empowering staff to consistently work for excellence in solutions that are consistent with Water Mission’s mission, vision, values, and standards.
The successful Project Engineer will:
- Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the
communities we serve, and the public. - Engage and participate in prayer before and after team meetings.
- Lead and participate in biblically based staff devotions.
- Promote, encourage, and model Water Mission’s mission, vision, and values to the technical
team members and all other staff members. - Conduct engineering field work and design, according to established engineering principles
and standards to a high degree of excellence and dependable accuracy. - Perform engineering tasks including water system hydraulic design, solar and electrical design,
and development of plans, specifications, and drawings. - Undertake onsite visits for the purpose of quality assurance & control and instruction of
Technicians and sub-contractors in support of approved projects. - Carry out assessments in communities, including topographical survey, appraisal of existing
structures, water quality and other aspects as may be required. - Lead assigned technical team members to provide oversight, review and assistance to ensure
quality of output and adherence to established standards and procedures. - Provide disaster response support and work in other countries as needed.
- Support technical and systems innovation that seek to further Water Mission’s mission.
- Write and submit timely project reports including monthly and assessment reports as per
specific assignment guideline. - Work in collaboration with Water Mission staff members and departments to ensure
successful completion of every area of project implementation and sustainability. - Prepare and conduct presentations to strategic partners, donors, and team members.

What is required?
- Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and
Integrity. - Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Water, Civil, Irrigation or Mechanical are preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Water and/Wastewater Engineering or related field.
- Must be registered as a Graduate Engineer with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI).
- Advanced skills with office computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and familiarity
with design & modeling programs (EPANET, AutoCAD, Power CADD, SolidWorks, ProE). - Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and
Integrity. - Must be standards and detail-oriented with ability to plan.
- A strong work ethic.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
- Excellent analytical skills, process design skills and project planning and relationship skills.
- Impeccable integrity and stewardship that demonstrates to those who invest in WMM a sense
of security and trust that their gifts are well used and invested. - Ability and willingness to travel for fieldwork between 25-50% of the time. This includes
overnight trips and disaster responses could be several weeks at a time. - Legal authorization to work in Malawi without sponsorship.
