Saint John of God Hospitaller Services is a non-profit healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians including the vulnerable, marginalized and excluded groups. With its operations in both Lilongwe and Mzuzu, Saint John of God Malawi is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health promotion and care including in prisons; early intervention services for children with
both intellectual and physical disability; vocational training for orphans & vulnerable youth including those with disability; health care and other services for older persons; psychosocial counselling, stress and addiction management services; rehabilitation of street children; self-help group approach for women empowerment and tertiary level training in
Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Medicine-Mental Health, Psychosocial Counselling and General Nursing.
Currently, the organisation with financial and technical support from Christian Blind Mission International, is implementing a disability inclusion project in the districts of Lilongwe, Mzimba North and Karonga.
The project aims to provide equal rights, inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in social services. The organisation seeks to fill the following position:
Position Title: Project Coordinator
Project Title: Promoting equal rights, participation and inclusion of persons with disability
Reports to: Programs Manager
Location: Mzuzu
Responsibilities (which include, but not limited to);
- Develop regular work plans, procurement plans and produce progress reports; and submit to the Programs Manager
- Facilitate assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to children with disability availingof community-based rehabilitation (CBR) clinics established in selected communities in Lilongwe Rural, Mzimba North and Karonga districts
- Facilitate coordination of identification and documentation of project achievements/successes, lessons learned, case studies and best practices.
- Facilitate training of some health care workers in the early identification of at-risk children, management of health care issues affecting persons with disability and set up referral pathways to healthcare services in Lilongwe Rural, Mzimba North and Karonga districts
- Facilitate the training of parents of children with disabilities and care givers in the portage approach in Lilongwe Rural, Mzimba North and Karonga Districts.
- Facilitate training of youths with disabilities and vulnerable others in Community based vocational training.
- Facilitate acquisition and distribution of postural management equipment, medicationand other assistive devices for children with disabilities in some CBCCs/ primary schools located in Lilongwe Rural, Mzimba North and Karonga.
- Supervise and appraise Project Officers.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Social Science, Special Needs Education, Counselling Psychology, Project Management, Public Health or related field with at least two years’ work experience in project related assignment.
- Good volunteer management experience and skills.
- Good community mobilization and engagement skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chichewa.
- Strict adherence to Service’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
- Registered with relevant professional bodies.
