The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. We operate in 27 countries with 330 staff and have mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteer leaders worldwide. Our programs throughout Africa, South Asia and Latin America are based on an innovative, holistic approach, which empowers women and men living in rural villages to become the agents of their own development and make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty. The Hunger Project Malawi, a branch of the Global Hunger Project has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently operating programs and projects in nine districts; Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.

The Hunger Project (THP) Malawi is inviting applications from eligible and qualified individuals to fill the following vacant position;

Job Title: Programs Coordinator (1)

Reporting to: Head of Programs

Location: Blantyre

PURPOSE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Purpose of the Job

The primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic program support to the office of Head of Programs for effective program delivery at country level. The Programs Coordinator is expected to guide evidence-based program development, aligned with best practices, and with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement. The Programs Coordinator will ensure the programs are appropriate to the programming context in response to locally expressed needs and conduct regular visits to the various program sites to provide technical support to program teams and to identify potential program adaptations and innovations in response to trends and new developments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation
  • Closely work with various district councils where TP is implementing projects so as to maintain good working relationships
  • Assisting with planning and coordination of programs and their activities
  • Monitoring implementation of program policies, practices and support program growth and development as necessary
  • Coordinating program communications, interactions/relationships between staff, donors, communities and all other program stakeholders
  • Creating and maintaining program records, reports, presentations and proposals
  • Project Monitoring and Supervision
  • Consolidating epicenter and special projects annual work plans for Head of Programs review
  • Compiling Quality Quarterly and annual Program reports from epicenters and special projects for the review of Head of Programs
  • Supporting the documentation of program successes for sharing with stakeholders
  • Supporting the implementation of project activities in epicenters and special projects through provision of technical guidance
  • Supporting the office of the Head of Programs in conducting program staff appraisals as well as staff assessment
  • Resource Mobilization and Fundraising
  • Supporting the epicenters in the development of Income Generating Activities for sustainability of epicenter program activities.
  • Processing program requests from epicenters and special projects by scrutinizing the requests if in line with work plans and budget, work to keep programs on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly
  • Scheduling and participating in program meetings with donors and investors for proper guidance to epicenter staff and special projects
  • Providing support to program fundraising activitiesAny other duties assigned to by the Head of Programs from time to time.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Economics, Agribusiness Management, development science or its equivalent from a recognized institution

Work Experience (Minimum needed)

  • Minimum Required: At least 5 years of experience in program strategy, assessment, program design, and implementation, budgeting and monitoring, and evaluation of international development programs, including financial and livelihood programs or similar roles. Preferred experience in non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Practical knowledge of management of community developments

Specialized Knowledge Needed for Job Performance

  • Proficiency with MS Office L…, Excel. Word, and Power Point
  • High level of knowledge with Google Suite and tools;

Skills (eg, Level of Judgment Required, Work Independently, Multi-Task, etc.):

  • Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to plan own work, setting priorities and completing them, including ability to work under pressure and to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Strong skills in analytical report writing

Other (Communication Skills, Aptitudes, or Other Specific Skills or Abilities Required):

  • High level of confidentiality, Fluency in English is required;
  • High social competence and networking capacity
  • Ability to travel domestically to rural communities
