Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is inviting applications from interested persons to fill the vacant post of Programme Officer tenable at its office in Lilongwe
Background
JICA is a technical cooperation arm of the Japanese Government responsible for providing technical assistance in developing countries. In Malawi JICA has, among others, projects in sectors like Agriculture, Transport, Water, Energy, Natural Resources, and Education.
Currently there is a vacancy for a Program Officer in Programme section. The successful candidate will be expected to offer logistical and administrative support for the promotion of JICA activities.
Duties
The prospective candidate, in collaboration with other heads of sections, will undertake some of the following tasks:
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support to missions coming to Malawi to conduct various studies and assignments.
  • Collect relevant information that can help in formulation of various programs projects that the Government of Malawi can implement in conjunction with JICA.
  • Provide support to section heads on any issues that require his/her involvement.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Chief Representative from time to time.
Qualifications And Experience
Applicants for the post must have the following qualifications and qualities:
  • A relevant Degree or equivalent preferably in Social Sciences, Development studies, or other related field at University level or equivalent.
  • At least Five (5) years progressive working experience with 3 years in one organization, and be conversant with Malawi’s development issues.
  • Between 25 and 50 years of age
  • Must be computer literate in such packages as word, excel, and power point.
  • Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken) and at least one local language.
  • Must have some knowledge of donor approaches to development issues of developing countries.
  • Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment is required.
  • Broad knowledge of current cultural, social, economic and political issues and a good understanding of the context of development work in Malawi is essential.
  • Must be prepared to travel to remote areas
  • Must have “can-do” attitude in any type of task
  • Those who have studied in Japan or worked for Japanese companies will have added advantage
The successful candidate will be offered a YEARLY contract that will be renewed annually upon mutual agreement by the parties.
Remuneration will be in the range of K800,000 to K1,500,000 per month including all benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
