Chikwawa District Council

Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions tenable at Chikwawa District Council. The applicants must be willing to work in rural areas and subjected to Malawi Public Service Regulations (MPSR) from time
to time.

POST TITLE: PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTANT

Grade: G/M4
Location: Chikwawa District Council
Salary: Within the range of Government (G/M4) salary scale segment

Duties:

i. Prepare cash flow forecasts.
ii. Provide on the job training to junior staff on financial accounting.
iii. Consolidate monthly returns of expenditure.
iv. Prepare expenditure estimates.
v. Counter signing of documents.
vi. Attend to audit queries.
vii. Assist with bank reconciliations.
viii. Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.

Educational Qualification and Experience

Applicants must be serving Senior Accountants (Grade H/M5) in possession of a Bachelor’s
Degree in Accountancy regardless of experience at that grade or Accountants (Grade I/M6) with a
minimum of four (4) years’ experience at that grade in the Local Councils.

Competencies

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that the various sections of the department are
functional and that staff are well trained in various accounting tools and systems. He/ she should
demonstrate the ability to enforce accounting controls so as to minimise audit queries. He/ She
must have good analytical and supervisory skills.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Successful candidates must be willing to be deployed in rural areas.
