Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position below:

POWER AND GENERATOR MAINTENANCE ENGINEER (SOUTH REGION)

Reporting to the Regional Technical Manager (South) in the Networks Division, the Power and Generator Maintenance Engineer (South Region) will be responsible for the efficient and reliable operation, maintenance, and support of power generators, including new installations, commissioning, and upgrades of site power systems in the region.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and implementation of regional network power projects
  • Execute generator, transfer switch, and associated power system installations/commissioning for new sites, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Conduct acceptance testing for completed regional CAPEX/OPEX power system projects
  • Collaborate with zone engineers to commission Remote Management Systems for generators and power systems
  • Perform routine generator maintenance (inspections, lubrication, component replacement)
  • Diagnose and repair generator malfunctions (electrical, mechanical, fuel system issues)
  • Conduct regular system testing (including load testing) to verify performance
  • Maintain accurate regional maintenance records (service reports, repairs, inventory)
  • Recommend retirement/relocation of generators per capacity needs and process asset transfers
  • Ensure availability of first-level maintenance spares through Energy Section coordination
  • Verify spare parts meet specifications and manage storage/transport per policy
  • Maintain appropriate tools and safety equipment for power systems
  • Strictly adhere to health/safety regulations and maintain safe work environments

Educational and Professional Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess

  • Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Degree preferred)
  • 2-3 years’ proven experience in:
  • Generator maintenance/troubleshooting
  • AC/DC electrical systems and power distribution
  • Technical expertise in diesel/petrol generator systems
  • Knowledge of DC power systems (rectifiers, batteries) for telecom (added advantage)
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex power issues
  • Ability to work with tools in confined spaces/heights
  • Health & Safety certification (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills and reliability with minimal supervision
