
Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS)
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) with a mandate to promote standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production, processing or treatment and to provide for the verification and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments; and further to provide for matter incidental to or connected with standardization.
The MBS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested persons to fill the following vacancies

Job title: Planning Officer (Economist)
Grade: BS6
Reporting to: Senior Corporate Planning Officer

Section: Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation

Job Purpose
To facilitate strategic and operational planning processes in the Bureau
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Initiating the development and review of strategic plans, budgets, annual work-plans and performance contract;
- Developing or reviewing MBS policies and guidelines in liaison with relevant departments,
- Preparing and reviewing proposals for resource mobilization;
- Developing project proposals for the Bureau,
- Working closely with the managers of private or public organization and government agencies to know their needs and establish a scale of preference in the process;
- Providing technical inputs and analyses in the identification, design, development, processing. and evaluation of loan projects;
- Participating in the formulation of recommendations, plans, and policies which could be used to solve economic problems or issues of the Bureau,
- Developing economic procedures and plans which are used in forecasting trends and formulating policies.
Required Academic Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should possess
- A Bachelor of Social Sciences, Economics or Statistics.
- At least 3 years practical experience in related field.
