The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is inviting applications from suitably qualifi ed, highly motivated, and experienced individuals to be considered for the following vacant positions in various establishments of the University:

Pharmacy Technician

a. Role Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the pharmacy, dispensing medications, providing pharmaceutical care, and off ering advice on the safe and eff ective use of medicines. The Pharmacist will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and treatment.

b. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescribed medications to patients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the proper use, side effects, and interactions of medications.
  • Counsel patients on how to take medications safely and manage any potential adverse effects.
  • Monitor patient medication therapies for effectiveness and safety, and adjust treatments as needed.
  • Manage inventory of pharmaceutical supplies and ensure the availability of essential medications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pharmacy records, including prescriptions, patient profiles, and stock management.
  • Ensure compliance with all pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient care and medication management.
  • Participate in health promotion and education programs within the institution.

c. Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • At least a Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board of Malawi
  • At least 3 years of experience as a practicing Pharmacist, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of pharmacology and medication management.
  • Strong communication and counseling skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing medications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Terms and Conditions of Engagement

All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be
considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023) applicable to staff on fi xed-term contract.
