MAC-Communicable Diseases Action Centre (MAC-CDAC) is a university research center at Kamuzu University of Health sciences working on research to address priority global health problems such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases and other communicable diseases. With funding from the National Institute of Health, MAC is a designated International Centre of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR). Over the next seven years, the center will be working with collaborators from the following universities: Michigan State, Boston, Maryland, Harvard and Michigan to understand how novel malaria interventions are affecting malaria transmission in Malawi. To undertake these activities, the center urgently needs the services of the following key personnel:

Part time Research Fellow (50% effort) – Blantyre

Position summary

The Research Fellow will lead research in the development of novel vector control innovations and how those interventions affect the emerging outdoor malaria transmission in Malawi.

Duration of contract: The initial contract will be for one year with possibility for further extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Reporting Line: He/ She will be reporting to the Principal Investigator

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Launch and overseeing studies under this component.

  • Maintain day to day communication with the Principal Investigator and international collaborators to ensure that the studies are implemented using approved SOPs.

  • Lead in the analysis, write up and publication of research findings.

  • Design and lead independent ancillary studies to increase the visibility of the center.

Required education, skills and experience

An experienced researcher with a PhD in vector biology/ entomology and at least three years of relevant experience. Should have strong research methodology and analytical skills with a track record of publications and funding from reputable organizations. The person should have well developed communication skills to function within a multicultural international team.

Remuneration

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to staff in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. KUHES is an equal opportunity employer.
