Lilongwe Handling Company Ltd

Lilongwe Handling Company Ltd. (LIHACO) is a wholly owned Malawi Government Company. Its
core business is to provide Airport Ground Handling Services to airlines at Chileka and Kamuzu
International Airports. The Board of Directors is inviting applications from suitably qualified
candidates of Malawi origin to fill the vacant position at its head office at Kamuzu International
Airport.

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

General Description of the Job

The Operations Director under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer shall play a key role in
providing strategic direction and taking charge and control of ground handling operations.

Main Duties:

1. Monitoring progress and variations in customer airlines operations as well as new developments in aviation industry and advising management team accordingly.
2. Establishing a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationship with customer airlines, aviation regulators and other stake holders.
3. Effectively communicating and presenting critical ground handling operations including quality matters to the Board of Directors.
4. Enhancing and enforcing company’s ground handling operation systems in support of current activities, statutory regulations and legislation and future growth.
5. Leading in Operations plus risk management and corporate governance processes
6. Assessing and determining adequate appropriate and modern GSE.
7. Overseeing development of contingency plans for responses to aviation incidents and accidents.
8. Resolving quality assurance and Safety, security, queries and disagreements from customers and stations.
9. Negotiating ground handling and service level agreements with customer airlines and subcontracted service providers related to ground handling operations.
10. Consolidating and analysing periodic reports and recommending appropriate interventions.

Qualification and Experience

1. Master’s Degree in Business Administration or any other Management related field, and
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management or any related field.
3. At least Eight (8) years at managerial level from a reputable organisation.

Personal Competences

1. Sound knowledge of aviation operational procedures including planning, audit testing, analytical review and sampling
2. Ability to reinforce standards and objectives
3. Be self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills
4. Ability to work under pressure and adapt readily to changes in system and procedures
5. Should be able to work with minimum supervision
6. Should be of high integrity and honesty

Appointment and Remuneration

The appointment is on a three (3) year contract as governed by the Company’s Terms and Conditions of Employment.
