Position: Nutrition Project Officer
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Project: Nourishing Futures – Empowering Malawi’s Civil Society for Sustainable Nutrition

Main Roles and Responsibilities of the Nutrition Project Officer

  • Provide technical guidance for project design, planning, and coordination.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to align project goals.
  • Develop and follow up on project plans and ensure timely reporting.
  • Manage day-to-day project activities in collaboration with partner organizations.
  • Ensure quality assurance and adherence to technical standards.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress and address challenges.
  • Develop training materials and facilitate workshops for stakeholders.
  • Capacity building of local civil society organizations (CSOs).
  • Serve as the primary contact between the project team and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with governmental and non-governmental organizations for support.
  • Develop advocacy strategies targeting CSOs, policymakers, and local communities.
  • Engage with food processors to promote adherence to food fortification standards.
  • Implement a Planning Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (PMEAL) system.
  • Analyze project results for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Manage project budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Provide regular financial updates to senior management and donors.
  • Maintain detailed records of project activities and generate reports for stakeholders.
  • Document lessons learned to improve future project activities

Qualifications for the Nutrition Project Officer

  • Education: a minimum of university degree (Master’s degree added advantage) in human nutrition, Public Health.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in managing nutrition programs, with expertise in food fortification and project management. Knowledge and experience in infant food nutrition and advocacy and capacity building of local CSOs will be an added advantage.

  • Project Coordination: Proven experience in coordinating international donor-funded projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Experience in conducting quality assurance on reports and program documents.
  • Capacity Building: Background in providing capacity strengthening, mentoring, and support to organizations.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Strong knowledge of planning, monitoring, evaluation methodologies, and data analysis.
  • Data Skills: Familiarity with statistical packages and qualitative data analysis software.
  • Communication: Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Financial Management: Skills in budget analysis and financial management.
  • Driver’s License: Holder of a valid driver’s license.
