Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) is a Trust that was established to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products to meet the needs of all patients in authorised hospitals in Malawi.
it is committed to meet its objective of collecting, processing and testing all blood from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors in low-risk populations to international standards, in a cost efficient manner.
The MBTS is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the post of Nursing Officer tenable at its O’dala Centre in Blantyre.
Job Summary
The Nursing Officer is responsible to and receives directions from the Chief Nursing Officer.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution with at least 1 year work experience in a central or equivalent busy hospital or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution with at least 3 years work experience in a central or equivalent busy hospital or in a blood transfusion service
- Registered with Nurses and Midwifes Council of Malawi.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Target and goal oriented
- Ability to build a successful, strong goal driven team
- Quality awareness and skills
- Basic computer skills
Responsibilities
1. Selection and care of blood donors
2. Conducting phlebotomy
3. Providing pre and post-donation information
4. Planning blood donation clinics
5. Organizing and managing blood donation clinics
6. Plaining, strategy development, budgeting and developing the blood donor programme
7. Performing any other duties as assigned by Management.
