Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawian candidates to fill the following vacant posts existing at Mwanza District Council

Post: Nursing Midwife Technician (Mental Health/ Psychiatric)
Grade: K/M8
Location: Mwanza District Council

Duties:

  1. Plans and implements quality mental health/psychiatric nursing care using the nursing process.
  2. Performs activities of daily living for the patients 24 hours/day.
  3. Collaborates with other health workers in meeting specific needs of the patients.
  4. Adhere to standard precautions of infection prevention and control practices.
  5. Builds therapeutic relationship with patients, guardians and fellow health workers.
  6. Documents and maintains accurate records of all mental health/ psychiatric nursing care activities performed.
  7. Maintains professional code of conduct at all times.
  8. Develops ward/department policies in consultation with other multidisciplinary team members.
  9. Monitors that all health workers comply with quality standards of care.
  10. Supervises Nurse/Midwives, students and Subordinate Staff.
  11. Conducts performance appraisal for subordinates and makes recommendations accordingly.
  12. Compiles weekly and monthly duty rosters for the ward.
  13. Plans and conducts regular meetings with different cadres of staff in the ward/department.
  14. Provides measures for ensuring drug safety and record keeping.
  15. Conducts inventory quarterly and maintains accurate records.
  16. Provides Supportive Supervision all mental health/psychiatric nursing activities in the health facilities
  17. Participates in identification of departmental training needs and conducts on the job training.
  18. Adheres to continuous professional development.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be in possession of Diploma in Mental Health/Psychiatric and Nursing and Midwifery and must be a registered Nurse with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
