• Direct: Nursing Officer
• Indirect: Senior Nursing Officer.     

6. Supervision Exercised: Hospital Attendants
7. Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing general nursing care to patients using the nursing/midwifery process
• Administering medication and treatment to patients and clients and where necessary using Direct Observation Therapy (DOT)
• Assisting patients under their care to meet activities of daily living
• Observing patient’s condition and progress and reporting accordingly
• Making necessary preparations and after care of equipment for treatment
• Promoting clean and safe environment for patient care and consequently promoting infection prevention
• Adhering to precautions of infection prevention and control practices
• Collaborating with other healthcare workers in meeting specific needs of patients
• Building therapeutic relationship with patients guardians and fellow healthcare workers
• Documenting and maintaining accurate records of all nursing care to activities performed
• Reporting comprehensively and accurately individual patient care to the Ward-In-Charge or Doctor
• Conducting proper handover of all patients under his/her care bed by bed for continuity of nursing care
• Maintaining professional code of conduct at all times
• Actively participating in departmental meetings
• Conducting Health Education Sessions to patients in the wards and outpatient department
• Participating in profession activities
• Adhering to Continuous Professional Development
• Performing any other duties deemed fit, assigned from time to time

 

8. Qualifications

• Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from a reputable training institution with 2 years experience in a busy hospital environment.
• Registered with Nurses and Midwife Council of Malawi

 

9. Knowledge, Ability and Skills

• Well conversant with the Healthcare System in Malawi
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Effective communication skills
• Problem identification and solving skills
