Background
Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa, with plans to expand services to Nkhotakota district in 2025.
FY 2025 expansion also includes the opening of a wellness centre clinic that will be implemented at Biwi health centre in Lilongwe. The wellness clinic will provide Reproductive Health Services,
focusing on sexually transmitted Infections and cervical cancer. The Wellness Clinic project will have an operations research component.
Position Title: Nurse Mentor- Nutrition and Sanitation (1 Position)
Reports to: Medical Coordinator
Duty Station: Chikwawa regional office
Overall Responsibility
Directly oversee food for health interventions in the AHF Malawi program, ensuring their timely and good quality interventions with outcomes reported. Support the hygiene and sanitation activities in facilities, ensuring infection prevention measures are adhered to Essential duties and responsibilities
A. NUTRITION
- Plan, prepare and supervise food for health strategic interventions for all AHF Malawi supported facilities.
- Lead and coordinate the procurement of items and commodities required in the food for health interventions.
- Develop, refine and roll out food for health monitoring and evaluation tools in collaboration with the monitoring and evaluation department
- Provide mentorship and supportive supervision to staff in AHF supported facilities on nutrition assessments, interventions and monitoring of outcomes
- Set standards and information to be shared for nutrition education, developing IEC materials and for awareness campaigns.
- Design and implement activities for nutrition education and support in PLHIV who have chronic comorbidities such as tuberculosis, cervical cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc
- Collaborate with the Ministry of Health officials and community structures in the support of clients with malnutrition, and for all food for health interventions.
B. SANITATION AND INFECTION PREVENTION
- Design strategies for sustainable facility Hygiene and Sanitation interventions for all AHF supported facilities
- Prepare detailed implementation plans for infection prevention, monitor and follow up the timely implementation of the activities
- Coordinate and lead in the procurement, stock management and distribution of cleaning material
- Lead in emergency outbreak preparedness and response, in collaboration with the ministry of health teams in all AHF supported districts.
- Support facilities in formulation /reinvigorating IPC plans and implementation of the same, especially in TB control and outbreak response
Qualifications, Experience, and other attributes
- Must have a Diploma in Nursing, with at least 5 years’ experience; and a diploma or degree in Nutrition.
- Experience in planning and budgeting is required.
- Experience in quality management and assurance practices is desired.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
