JOB DESCRIPTION

ShareWORLD Open University is a registered and accredited University by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE). The University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has a capacity for over 500 students and over 60 members of staff. The University is inviting applications from suitable individuals to work as full time Nurse at the Lilongwe Campus.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Providing primary healthcare to students and staff in the University, i.e. managing Clients’ health conditions, assessing and diagnosing patients, prescribing and providing basic medications or recommending for further specialized medical care. The position will also assist in educating and advising students and staff on how to make healthy lifestyle choices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities shall include:

  • Assisting in developing plans for Students Care and Support based on assessment, intervention and identification of outcomes of the evaluation of care.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the University Sick Bay/Clinic.
  • Managing students and staff health conditions.
  • Assessing the University campus environment to prevent injury and ensure safety of students and staff.
  • Overseeing infection control measures.
  • Actively participating in University’s safety plans that address emergencies that may occur at the campus.
  • Diagnosing and managing some common health related problems.
  • Overseeing administration of basic medication, health care procedures and the development of healthcare plans.
  • Referring students and staff to other hospitals for further medical attention.
  • Making decisions related to the management of health care tasks as per Health professional practice guidance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate in Nursing or Midwife Technician
  • Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
  • At least 2 years of practical experience.
