Unitrans Malawi Limited a prominent employer in the sugar logistics industry wants to recruit suitably qualified persons of Malawian origin to fill the following vacancies tenable at Dwangwa Depot for the 2024 cane haulage season.

ARTICULATED HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE DRIVERS AND EXCAVATOR/PLANT OPERATORS

Minimum Requirements

Duties and responsibilities

  • Efficient delivery of sugar cane from fields to mill situated at Dwangwa Sugar Estate.
  • Proper care and accountability of company property (i.e. motor vehicle, diesel and customer product) at all times.
  • Compliance with company safety policy and procedures and always promote safety standards.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Must have knowledge of reporting accident/incident and defects
  • Must have knowledge of optimum vehicle cost- effectiveness
  • Must have sound knowledge of driver actions in terms of human / weather / road traffic conditions
  • Must be conversant with functions and location of in-cab and other vehicle components

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of Malawi Junior Certificate of Education (those with MSCE will have an added
    advantage)
  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Must have clean criminal record
  • Willing to work in shifts and on public holidays

Applicants for post of Articulated Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver must have:

  • A clean and valid driver’s license of code EC (or CE) and driving permit of G, D category
  • At least 3 (three) years driving experience.

Applicants for post of Excavator Operator must have:

  • A clean and valid driver’s license of Code C and driving permit of G, D category
  • At least 2(two) years’ operating experience (Excavator).

REFRIGERATION MECHANIC

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the success applicant will be responsible for:-

  • Inspect and diagnose problems in refrigeration system;
  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on refrigeration systems;
  • Install new refrigeration systems;
  • Use hand and power tools to install, repair and maintain refrigeration systems;
  • Keep up to date with new technology and advancement in the refrigeration industry;
  • Comply and Maintain safety and health requirements at all times.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
  • Grade 1 National Trade Test Certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or its
    equivalent. Completion of refrigeration mechanic apprenticeship program or equivalent
    experience also required.
  • Must be proficient in diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team.
  • Minimum of three years hands on experience in a similar position in a busy organization.
  • Must have knowledge of agricultural and vehicle air con systems and be able to diagnose
    electrical faults and make necessary repairs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in shifts and with little supervision.
