VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Salima District Council is inviting Applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacancies:
1. Post : Disease Control Surveillance Assistant (Grade HM/M11)
Duty Station : Salima District Council – health sector
Salary : Within Grade M, Salary segment
DUTIES
  • Serve as link between fixed District Health Services and the community
  • Works directly with village/community leaders, extension workers and other volunteers
  • Providing environmental and personal health services in Collaboration with Medical Assistant, Health Assistant and Enrolled Community Health Nurses.
  • Conducts community assessments, village inspections, monitors growth and reports disease outbreaks
  • Participate with others in providing immunization, maintaining equipment and improving the quality of water by protecting shallow wells and chlorinating untreated water;
  • Treating minor ailments and facilitates formation and training of Village Health Committees (VHCs) and Volunteers;
  • Supervises VHCs and volunteers and refers patients and suspect to nearest health unit.
  • Record data in relevant registers and instruments using HMIS guidelines, disseminate to respective Village Health Committee, and report to the designated supervisor;
  • Prepares monthly work plans;
  • Provides feed back to the community;
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable for the post.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credit passes in at least two science subjects.
  • Age must be 18 to 40 years
2. Post : Community Development Assistant (Grade M/M11)
Location : Salima District Council – Community Services
Salary : Within Grade M/M11 salary Scale segment
JOB PURPOSE
To provide community extension services for sustainable rural development
DUTIES
  • Assisting in establishing, strengthening and nurturing smooth and cordial work relations and linkages among community development stakeholders, VDCs, ADCs, and other development partners to ensure ownership and sustainability of development interventions.
  • Conduct field visits to every community development program and livelihood groups to monitor and supervise activities.
  • Coordinating community development stakeholders at community level
  • Facilitating the identification, mobilization of community needs and development of village action plans.
  • Building capacity of communities in the implementation of development initiatives by mounting courses.
  • Supervision and management of adult literacy centres and instructors in their area
  • Fostering community self-help spirit in designing and implementing communities’ own development plans and initiatives.
  • Preparing monthly work plans and reports for submission to the district office.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Interested applicants should meet the following requirements:
  • Certificate in Community Development from a recognized Institution
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Be willing to serve the rural citizens in Salima District
  • Be willing to work odd hours
  • Age range 18 to 40 years.
3. Post : Fisheries Assistant Grade M/M11
Location : Salima District Council – Fisheries Sector -Extension
Salary : Within Grade M/M11 salary Scale segment
DUTIES:
  • Preparing and implementing monthly work plans.
  • Identifying and conducting training for fishing communities
  • Advising fishers and fish traders on fish handling and fish processing methods
  • Advising fishers and the fishing communities on the importance of the fisheries laws and regulations
  • Identifying fishers’ problem and needs and assisting them to finds solutions to solve their problems.
  • Assisting fishing communities
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicants must have Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Certificate in Fisheries Management from Malawi College of Fisheries
  • Age range 18 to 40 years.
