Pirimiti Community Hospital is one of the fastest growing hospitals under Zomba Diocese. To achieve its mission statement, the hospital is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions;

  1. Pharmacy Technician (Grade K) – 1 Post
  2. Laboratory Assistant (Grade L) – 1 Post
  3. Hospital Attendant (Grade O) – 1 Post
  4. Clinical Technician (Grade K) – 1 Post – Non-established

 

1.Pharmacy Technician (Grade K)

Job summary

Reporting to the Medical Officer. The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for planning and implementing pharmacy activities and providing quality pharmaceutical services. He/she is responsible for providing direction and leadership of pharmacy department and daily running of the pharmacy.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checking stocks and making orders from the bulk store.
  • Pre-packing drugs ready for dispensing
  • Issue required medicine to patients and give instructions on how to use and store the medicine.
  • Management of pharmaceutical supplies for hospital wards
  • Preparing limited range of medicines including packaging and labelling under pharmacist’s supervision
  • Keeping adequate records of all stocks into existing pharmacy units, i.e. the hospital dispensary.
  • Ensure proper and complete recording of data in relevant registers and instruments, timely compilation and analysis of data, perform routine monitoring following HMIS guidelines, taking necessary action for improvement and submitting quarterly and other reports to the designated officer.
  • Ensuring correct drug storage
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable for the post.

 

Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Pharmacy from a reputable institution
  • Registered with Pharmacy, Medicine and Poisons Board of Malawi

 

Knowledge, Ability and Skills

  • Well conversant with the Health System in Malawi, ability to work independently and problem identification and solving skill

 

2. Laboratory Assistant

Job summary

Reporting to the Chief Laboratory Technician. The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for planning and implementing laboratory activities and providing quality services. He/she is responsible for providing direction and leadership of the laboratory department

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting examinations of various specimens sent from units within the hospital
  • Preparation of specimen containers and reagents
  • Receiving and documentation of specimen from wards and out patients department
  • Processing of specimen
  • Standardization of machineries ready for daily work
  • Sending out results to various departments
  • Registration of names, specimens, and results in a proper laboratory register
  • Recording data in relevant registers/instruments, performing routine analysis and reporting to the supervisor following the HMIS and other technical guidelines.
  • Performs any other duties deemed reasonable assigned from time to time

 

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Biomedical Sciences from a reputable training institution with 2 years’ experience in a busy environment.
  • Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.

  • Well conversant with the Health System in Malawi

3. Hospital Attendant (Grade O)

 Job summary

Reporting to the Ward – In – Charge. The Hospital Attendant will be responsible for ensuring the general cleanliness of the ward environment. He/she is responsible for providing direction to patients who have been assessed to go to other departments for continuity of services.

 

Duties and Responsibilities     

  • Conducting dump dusting in the wards including nurses station
  • Collecting and delivering ordered drugs from the pharmacy
  • Delivering blood and other samples to laboratory and remembering to collect the same
  • Maintaining ward cleanliness by ensuring that the wards are thoroughly mopped
  • Disposing of all wastes and consequently burning the required wastes in the incinerator
  • Escorting referred cases to referral units
  • Performing any other duties deemed reasonable to the post

 

Qualifications

Malawi School Certificate of Education

4. Clinical Officer (Grade K) – Non – Established

Reporting to the Medical Officer. The Clinical Technician will be responsible for planning and implementing clinical activities and providing quality surgical and obstetric services. He/she will be responsible for providing direction and leadership of clinical department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing patients problems and prescribing the right treatment
  • Conducting ward rounds of admitted patient to review possible discharges as well as treatment
  • Providing advice to patients on how to take medication to ensure effectiveness
  • Supervising staff under him in their routine daily work.
  • Ordering drugs and ensure that drugs are economically used and that dangerous drugs are properly recorded
  • Preparing work schedule for member of staff under his supervision and monthly returns of patients
  • Selecting patients to be reviewed by the Senior Medical Officer and send urgent cases for Senior Medical Officer’s action
  • Performing normal surgical operations and attending to theatre emergencies
  • Ensuring correct and complete recording of data in relevant HMIS registers and instruments
  • Ensure timely processing of data and dissemination to all relevant stakeholders including timely submission of HMIS report to designated supervisor
  • Conducting auditing of patients files to ensure quality health services
  • Performing any other duties assigned from time to time

 

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from reputable training institution with 2 year working experience
  • Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi
