VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant posts that exist at Mulanje District Council:
1. Post: Senior Medical Assistant
Grade: HL
Age:25-35 years
Qualifications:
Applicants must be holders of the Certificate in Clinical Medicine from a recognised institution and must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
DUTIES:
  • Prescribing treatment for patients.
  • Diagnosing and screening patients.
  • Examining patients manually.
  • Managing out-patients unit.
  • Making references for patient cases for laboratory tests.
  • Administering admissions and discharges
  • Conducting minor surgeries, anaesthesia or referring patients to surgical or medical specialists.
  • Recording data in relevant and instruments, compiling and analysing data.
  • Performing monthly monitoring and dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Submission of quarterly reports to designated supervisors according to the HMIS guidelines.
2. POST: Disease Control Surveillance Assistant
Grade: HM
Age:25-35 years
Qualification:
Applicants must be holders of Malawi School Certificate of Education with credit in English
and any other two Science subjects.
DUTIES
  • Serve as a link between fixed district health services and the community and works directly with village/community leaders, and other volunteers in providing environmental and personal health services in collaboration with medical assistant, health assistant and enrolled community health nurses.
  • Conduct community assessments, village inspections, monitors growth and reports disease outbreaks
  • Participate with others in providing immunizations, maintaining equipment and improving the quality of water by protecting shallow wells and chlorinating untreated waters.
  • Treating minor ailments and facilitates formation of Village Health Committees (VHCS) and volunteers.
  • Supervise VHCs and volunteers and refers patients and suspects to nearest health unit.
  • Records data in relevant registers and instruments using HMIS guidelines disseminate to respective village health committees and report to the designated supervisor.
  • Prepares monthly work plans.
  • Provides feedback to the community.
3. POST: Plumber
Grade:M
Age:25-35 years
Qualifications:
Applicants must be holders of level 4 certificate in Plumbing from a recognised institution plus the Malawi School Certificate of Education.
DUTIES:
  • Ensure general maintenance of water systems.
  • Order materials for maintenance.
  • Install new water lines in new places.
  • Report to the Maintenance Supervisor on all work-related issues.
4. POST: Clerical Officer (CO)
Grade:M
Age: 25-35years
Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education and a certificate in Human Resource Management
DUTIES:
  • Dispatch official mail
  • Track movement of file
  • Maintain incoming and outgoing mail register
  • Supervise subordinate staff
  • Prepare terminal benefits application forms.

5. POST: Community Development Assistant
Grade:M
Age: 25-35
Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education and a certificate in Community Development Social Work obtained from a government-recognized and accredited institution
DUTIES:
  • Control and supervise Adult Literacy classes
  • Train community leaders, adult literacy instructors, project management and other development committees in an area.
  • Monitor and supervise self help projects and other community development projects
  • Facilitate organisation of adult literacy classes, presentation of certificates, information of adult literacy committee and establishment of rural community information centres.
  • Prepare reports and submit to the District Community Development Officer
  • Assist community leaders in planning, organising and implementation of self-help projects
  • Organise and mobilize communities for community development activities
  • Organise, train and supervise business/VSL/COMSIP group or clusters
  • Plan, organise and implement home management and nutrition activities
  • Assisting in appraising the performance of a cluster supervisors, adult literacy instructor, community-based teachers and other community volunteers
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other Extension Workers in their area
  • Facilitate formation and training of development structure at community level e.g Village Development Committee, Village Civil Protection Committees, Village Nutrition Coordination Committees and area development Committees

6. POST: Copy Typist

Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education and 50 words per minute Typing Certificate obtained from a recognised institution.
DUTIES:
  • Type general and confidential correspondences

7. POST: Lands Clerk
Grade: M
Age: 25-35
Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education with atleast credit in English, Mathematics and Geography and those with Certificate in Land Administration or Land Tenure studies from accredited institution will have added advantage.
DUTIES
  • Prepare basic maps and Land use plan for each Traditional Land Management Area (TLMA)
  • Facilitate demarcation and registration of customary land
  • Prepare and maintain land registry transactions at TLMA level
  • Provide technical advice on land matters to the Customary Land Committee and Customary Land Tribunal
  • Monitor compliance with all Land related Laws including the Land Act, Customary Land Act and Registered Land Act (2016)
  • Verify boundaries of land parcels and individuals claims to those land parcels
  • Provide advice and guidance on land parcel claims in accordance with Customary Land Act (2016)
  • Operate office equipment of various types such as Computers, Fax, Photocopiers, Scanners etc
8. POST: Hospital Attendant
Grade: HP
Age: 25-35
Qualification:
Applicants must be holders of the Junior Certificate of Education and those with MSCE will have an added advantage.
DUTIES:
  • Bed making every morning and bed tidying in the afternoon
  • Damp dusting in all lockers, beds, screens, windows and other ward accessories
  • Moping of ward floor every morning, afternoon and whenever the floor is tidy
  • Scrubbing of toilets every morning and afternoon of patients’ meals
  • Help with the safe keeping of government property
  • Taking patients to X-ray, Laboratory, theatre etc.
  • Gives Health Education to patients and guardians
  • Assist in preparation of last office
  • Cleaning windows and remove of cobwebs every afternoon
  • Decontaminating and sluicing
  • Scrubbing of wards once every week
  • Help with preparing gauze and cotton wool
  • Responsible for taking and serving of patients’ meals
9. POST: Senior Laundry Attendant
Grade: HO
Qualification:
Applicants must be holders of the Malawi Junior Certificate of Education and those with the Malawi School Certificate of Education will have an added advantage.
DUTIES:
  • Sorting, washing, drying and folding clothing and textile items.
  • Removing stains from items using the appropriate procedure.
  • Cleaning and maintaining laundry room area equipment.
  • Performing minor sewing duties.
  • Tracking maintenance and repairs on laundry equipment.
  • Arrange clothes in the laundry room as specifications.
  • Update the laundry list and record it on daily basis.
10. POST: Mortuary Attendant
Grade: HO
Age: 25-40
Qualifications:
Applicants must be holders of the Malawi Junior Certificate of Education and those with the Malawi School Certificate of Education will have an added advantage.
DUTIES:
  • Preparation of dead bodies.
  • Embalming dead bodies.
  • Maintaining register of dead bodies.
  • Taking care of cold room.
  • General Cleaning of the mortuary room.
  • Reporting unclaimed dead bodies to higher authorities.
  • Reporting any fault of the cold room to higher authorities.
  • Safe custody of all mortuary equipment.
  • Implementing and maintaining infection prevention and control standards.
11. POST: Messenger

12. POST: Bricklayer

Qualifications:
Applicants must be in possession of level 4 certificate in Bricklaying from the recognised institution and the Malawi School Certificate of Education.
DUTIES
  • Laying bricks
  • Using hand tools, power tools and brick cutting equipment.
  • Repairing and maintaining building blocks.
  • Sealing foundations.
  • Measuring out construction areas and setting out first rows of bricks.
13. POST: Electrician

Qualifications
Applicants must be holders of level 4 certificate in Electrical Installation from a recognised institution and the Malawi School Certificate of Education
DUTIES
  • We are currently hiring an experienced Electrician who will be responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the set up and maintenance of electrical infrastructure
  • Installation of electrical wiring in buildings, structures and poles, troubleshooting electrical malfunctions and blackouts, and performing repairs on appliances.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment to provide electricity for various purposes.
  • Executing electrical wiring plan, installing fixtures and equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions and repairing electrical appliances.
  • Conducting inspections, replacing old wiring and performing maintenance tasks to prevent system breakdowns and maximise electrical usability.
  • Executing plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems.
  • Installing electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems.
  • Installing safety and distribution components.
  • The ideal candidate must possess extensive knowledge and experience working with various electrical devices and systems.

14. POST: Driver

Qualification:
Applicants must be holders of Malawian School Certificate of Education, a valid C1 Driving Licence with 3 years experience, Defensive Driving Licence.
DUTIES:
  • Driving and regular cleaning of the council vehicle.
  • Arrange regular service of motor vehicle as needed in liaison with the Transport Officer.
  • Keep mileage and repair records up to date.
  • Maintain an organized travel schedule for a vehicle in use.
  • Maintain log book of a vehicle in use on daily basis.
  • Keep track of timely car insurance renewals, oil checks and general condition of the vehicle.

15. POST: Security Guard
Grade: P
Age:25-40
Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of a Junior Certificate of Education, or Malawi School
Certificate of Education with a 2 years’ experience.
DUTIES:
  • Guarding all Mulanje District Council premises including the surroundings.
  • Detect and report any security threat to Head of Security as soon as possible.
  • Make proper checking of premises before taking over the guarding responsibilities
  • Make proper hand over before checking out from the premises.
  • Clean the office surroundings as directed by the office superintendent.
16. POST: Ground Labourer
Grade:R
Age: 25-35
Qualification:
Applicants must be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education
DUTIES:
  • Cleaning all office surroundings.
  • Watering flowers and grass in lawns.
  • Making sure that rubbish is removed at all times in bins around offices.
