MINISTRY OF MINING

VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians, Civil Servants or non-civil servants, as the case may be, depending on the requirements of the post, for the vacancies listed below existing in Ministry of Mining:

1) POST: Mining Assistant (Grade M)

Location: The Department of Mines

Salary: within Grade M salary scale segment

Qualification:

Applicants should be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credits in English and three (3) other science subjects including Mathematics

DUTIES

  • Assisting in demarcation of mineral tenements for artisanal and small scale
  • Follow all safety and security protocols and procedures
  • Interact with clients to answer questions about mineral tenements and mining cycle;
  • Maintain accurate inventory and records of mining activities
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area;
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

2) POST: Laboratory Assistant (Grade M)

Location: The Department of Mines and Department of Geological Survey

Salary: within Grade M salary scale segment

Qualification:

Applicants should be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credits in English and three (3) other science subjects including Mathematics.

DUTIES

  • Collection of Mineral samples
  • Recording and registering of samples
  • Apportioning of samples for decomposition
  • Decomposing samples
  • Performing of sample analysis using various laboratory equipment and;
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

3) POST: Gemology Assistant (Grade M)

Location: The Department of Mines

Salary: within Grade M salary scale segment

Qualification:

Applicants should be in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credits in English and three (3) other science subjects or serving officers in possession of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and had attended Lapidary course offered by Geological Mapping and Mineral Assessment of Malawi Project

DUTIES

  • Assisting in laboratory works on gemstone identification and valuation;
  • Assisting in keeping of records for gemstone identification and valuation;
  • Conduct research on the characteristics of different gemstones such as physical properties, history and cultural significance
  • Sort and organise gemstones by type, colour and clarity
  • Assist with evaluation of gemstones by examining them under a microscope or other specialised equipment
  • Adhere to all safety and security procedures while handling gemstones and related equipment;
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time
