Several Positions: Clinical Technicians, Laboratory Technicians, Nurse Midwife Technicians, Disease Control Surveillance Assistants, Hospital Attendants
Karonga District Council has received support from the World Health Organisation to recruit health workers on contract in various categories to fight cholera outbreak for a period of 2 months, therefore Karonga District Council is inviting applications as follows:
1) Job Title: Clinical Technicians
Grade: HK/M9
Location: Health facilities within Karonga District and City Council’s
Period of Engagement: 2months
Salary: Within the range of government (HK/M9) Salary Scale Segment
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be in possession of a diploma in Clinical medicine obtained from a recognized university/Institution, and be a registered member of Medical Council of Malawi.
b) Must be willing to work in health centers within Karonga District Council.
DUTIES
1) Supervise staff under him/her in daily work of cleaning wards and giving-drugs to patients as prescribed;
2) Order drugs and ensure that they are economically used and that dangerous drugs are properly recorded;
3) Diagnose patient’s problems and prescribe treatment;
4) Select patients for review by seniors on his/her routine visits and send urgent cases for senior officer’s action;
5) Prepare work schedule and monthly returns of patients and staff;
6) Conduct ward rounds
2) Job Title: Laboratory Technicians
Grade: HK/M9
Location: Health facilities within Karonga District and City Council’s Period of Engagement:2 Months
Salary: Within the range of government (M/M9) Salary Scale Segment
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Must have Diploma in Laboratory Technology
  • Must be willing to work in health centers within Karonga District Council.
DUTIES
1) Examination of specimens
2)General cleaning of working places
3)Preparations of specimen containers and reagents
4)Standardization of machineries ready for days’ work
5)Reporting of results yesterday’s specimens previously examined or which has been left over a night
6)Receiving of specimens from wards, out patients and district or private hospitals
7) Collection of specimens from Wards, outpatient or private hospitals
8)Registration of Names and specimens in the day book (Log book)
9)Processing of specimens
10)Reporting of results and writing up in the day book (Log book)
11)Sending out results to various departments
12) Recording data in relevant registers/ instruments, perform routine analysis, monitor performance and report to the supervisor following HMIS and other technical guidelines.
3) Job Title: Nurse Midwife Technicians
Grade: HK/M9
Location: Health facilities within Karonga District and City
within Karonga District Council Karonga Council’s Period of Engagement: 2Months
Salary: Within the range of government (M/M9) Salary Scale Segment
Educational Qualifications
  • Applicants must be in possession of a diploma in Nursing and Midwifery obtained from a recognized University / Institution, and must be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
b) Must have worked under Cholera Treatment Units (Center) CTC/Emergency Treatment Units (ETU).
c) . Must be willing to work in health centers
DUTIES
1) Provide quality nursing care using the nursing / midwifery process
2). Administer medication and treatment to patients and clients;
3) Assist in the rehabilitation of patients through application of principles of prevention of deformities, range of motion exercise and body alignment;
4) Adhere to continuous professional development;
5) Perform activities of daily living for the patients 24 hours / day
6)Observe patients’ condition and progress;
7)Maintain a clean and safe environment for patient cares;
8) Use appropriate common skills during nursing care;
9)Document and maintain accurate records of all nursing care activities performed;
10) Building therapeutic relationship with patients, guardians and fellow health workers.
4) Job Title: Disease Control Surveillance Assistants
Grade: HM/M11
Location: Various Healthy Facilities in the district
Educational Qualification
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Orientation to Community Health activities
DUTIES
1).Serve as a link between fixed District Health Services and the Community and works directly with village/community leaders, workers and other volunteers and providing environmental and personal health services in collaboration with Medical Assistant, Health Assistant and Enrolled Community Health Nurses
2) Conducts community assessments village inspections, monitors growth and reports disease outbreak (Cholera)
3) Participates with others in providing immunization, maintaining equipment and improving quality of water by protecting shallow wells and chlorinating untreated water.
4) Treating minor ailments and facilitates formation and training of Village Health Committees (VHCs) and volunteers
5) Supervise VHCs and volunteer and refers patients and suspects to the nearest heath unit/ community treatment unit.
6) Record data in relevant registers and instruments using HMIS guidelines disseminate to respective village Health Committees and report to the designated supervisor
7) Prepare monthly work plans
8) Provides feedback to the community
9)Any other duties deemed reasonable for the post.
10) To follow infection, prevention control measures in management of cholera cases
5) Job Title: Hospital Attendants
Grade: P
Location: Various hospital Facilities in the district
Educational Qualification
Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Orientation to Community Health activities.
DUTIES:
1) Assist bed making of occupied and unoccupied
2)Sweeping and mopping floors in cholera camps
3)Wash, disinfect beds, lockers, and instruments as required
4) Deliver specimen to the lab and collect results
5) Emptying of waste bins according to infection prevention protocols
6)Cleaning toilets
7)Keeping linen room tidy
8)Sluicing of hospital linen and washing where there are no laundry attendants
9)Assisting giving and removing bedpans and urinals
10) Participation in giving health education to patients and guardians
11) Help in feeding patients
12) Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors
