MONITORING & EVALUATION ASSISTANT  

Project Background 

The delinking of the College of Medicine (COM) and Kamuzu College of Nursing  (KCN) from the University of Malawi (UNIMA) to form an independent institution, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), necessitated the development of  a new legal and policy framework and the reorganization of structures, systems,  and processes to ensure the University’s effective functioning.

As part of this transition, Kamuzu University Health Sciences has received support  through the KUHeS-Scottish Government Strategic Partnership Grant, which aims  to support the development of governance systems, instruments, tools, processes,  and procedures to effectively deliver its mandate while sustaining and expanding  the delivery of the MalDent and Blantyre-Blantyre Research projects in Malawi  and Zambia by 2028.

To support the implementation of these initiatives, Kamuzu University of Health  Sciences is seeking a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant, who will play a  key role in data collection, analysis, and reporting to ensure evidence-based  decision-making and successful project execution.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

The M&E Assistant will support the M&E Officer in ensuring the effective  implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities across the institution.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • ∙ Assist in collecting, capturing, and collating data from schools,  departments, and other stakeholders
  • ∙ Ensure data quality through regular quality assessments and provide  feedback to relevant teams
  • ∙ Maintain organized and updated databases to support reporting and  decision-making
  • ∙ Support the development and adaptation of tools for tracking outputs and  outcomes
  • ∙ Participate in the monitoring of program activities to ensure alignment with  institutional goals
  • ∙ Assist in analyzing monitoring data and preparing it in simple formats for use  in stakeholder engagements.
  • ∙ Assist in training school and departmental staff on M&E tools and  methodologies.
  • ∙ Provide technical assistance for implementing action plans based on  evidence and lessons learned.
  • ∙ Assist in preparing M&E-related reports, presentations, and other  documentation.
  • ∙ Support the preparation of annual work plans and progress reports for the  M&E team.
  • ∙ Assist in representing the organization in meetings and workshops when  delegated.
  • ∙ Track best practices in monitoring and evaluation and share insights with  the team.
  • ∙ Participate in surveys, baselines, and evaluation processes under the  guidance of the M&E Officer.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements 

  • ∙ Diploma in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Economics, Social  Sciences, or related fields.
  • ∙ At least 2 years of relevant experience in M&E, data analysis, or research. ∙ Proficiency in data analysis software (Excel, SPSS, STATA, R, or Python). ∙ Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data  Studio).
  • ∙ Strong understanding of M&E frameworks, logframes, and indicators. ∙ Experience in designing and managing surveys.
