
Pesticides Control Board (PCB)
Pesticides Control Board (PCB) was established as a Statutory Corporation by an Act of Parliament of 2000 (CAP. 35:03), amended in 2018, to control and manage pesticides trade, use and disposal in Malawi. It is guided by the Board of Directors who have the overall responsibility over its strategic leadership, control and performance.
The key functions and responsibilities of the board include to:
- Register pesticides and issue certificates, licenses and permits, in accordance with the Act;
- Monitor and control the import, export, manufacture, distribution, sale, storage, use and disposal of pesticides in Malawi;
- Conduct public educational campaigns on the safe handling and use of pesticides;
- Advise the Minister on matters related to pesticides
- Prevent smuggling of pesticides and manage pesticides stocks at national level
- Monitor disposal of empty or used pesticide containers and decontamination of sites contaminated with pesticides;
- Dispose of any quantities of any pesticide or pesticide waste;
- Propose regulations to be made under this Act by the Minister.
In pursuit of its mandate, the Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant positions that exist within the Board.
POSITION : MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS (3 POSITIONS)
Location: Regional Offices/ Districts
Grade : P5
Reporting to : Senior Monitoring and Enforcement Officer
Key Duties
- Conducting inspections of pesticides and premises such as warehouses, outlets, commercial applicators, farmer fields and sales premises for adherence to pesticides regulations.
- Conducting post registration surveillance at border posts and road blocks.
- Investigating and reporting pesticides poisoning incidences and issues
- Collecting pesticides stock data in the country Confiscating, in liaison with Police, illegal pesticides products and equipment.
- Training of pesticides users, agro-dealers and commercial applicators in pesticides risk management and safe handling.
- Routine sampling of pesticides in outlets for lab analysis
- Preparing reports.
Minimum Education Qualification and Experience
Degree in Agriculture or Environmental Sciences related field obtained from a recognized University
Professional Experience
At least 3 years’ experience in pesticides management and control.
