Blantyre Water Board
Blantyre Water Board is a government-owned institution established and reconstituted under the Waterworks Act of 1995 to supply potable water to residents of the City of Blantyre City and other surrounding areas. Blantyre Water Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant positions:
METER READING AND DISCONNECTION DRIVER (NON-ESTABLISHED)
Applicants must have the following attributes:
- At least Malawi School Certificate of Education
- At least Certificate in Financial Accounting or related field
- At least two (2) years proven work experience
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Resilience and ability to work long hours
- Good interpersonal and customer care services skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Integrity and honesty.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
a) Reading accurately and timely all meters in each designated walk-route as per billing cycle
b) Timely delivery of water bills to customers every month as per billing cycle
c) Documenting and reporting all faults, faulty meters and suspected illegal connections as discovered in the field from time to time
d) Comparing consumption in the field and alert the customer of the possibility of high bills if consumption has gone up by more than 5 per cent
e) Documenting and reporting any meters indicated in the walk route/pocketbook but not available on site from time to time
f) Documenting and reporting any meters found on site but not in the walk route/ pocketbook from time to time
g) Ensuring that data in the handheld has been downloaded daily and handheld charged
h) Re-sequencing walk routes from time to time
i) Documenting and reporting serial number different meters to be amended in the system
j) Documenting and reporting long disconnected and meter removed accounts for appropriate action
k) Assisting plumbers with faulty or aged meter replacement
l) Carrying out disconnections and reconnections of all overdue accounts from time to time
m) Performing any other relevant duties to the post as assigned from time to time.
