
Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority
Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA) is a Statutory body created by an Act of Parliament No. 9 of 2019 with the mandate to regulate medicines and allied substances, pharmacy businesses and the practice of pharmacy in Malawi.
In a bid to strengthen human resource capacity in delivering this mandate, the Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified, highly motivated and experienced persons of Malawi origin to fill various positions tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe. The following are the details of the vacant positions: –
POSITION: MEDICINES INSPECTION OFFICER (1)
Grade: PMRA 5
Location: Regional Office (North)
Responsible to: Regional Compliance and Enforcement Officer
Job Purpose
To perform medicines inspection and drug policing activities in the region in line with PMRA requirements and standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Inspect registered pharmaceutical premises and ports of entry
2. Check whether all medicines are registered in all medicine stores, retail pharmacies
3. and wholesale.
4. Carry out spot checks in all registered pharmaceutical premises to enforce medicines marketing and storage standards.
5. Impound unregistered, sub-standard or counterfeit medicines in accordance with approved procedures
6. Conduct inspections of shops and other unregulated premises to check for illegal sales of medicines throughout the country in liaison with the police·
7. Facilitate training of stakeholders at the ports of entry on the procedures and practices in inspection of consignments of medical products other products regulated by the Authority
8. Authority investigations of all suspected illegal vendors of medicines in preparation for inspections
9. Initiate formulation of strategies on curbing illegal drug handling Plan and implement cost effective inspections on Tips of anonymous and illegal markets
10. Check and verify registration of all practicing pharmaceutical personnel in all business premises
11. Communicate changes to inspection policies and guidelines to stakeholders
12. Prepare police statements, statistics and reports
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
- At least three (3) years relevant work experience
- Registered with appropriate professional body
Person Specifications
- Demonstrated organization and interpersonal skills
- High degree of integrity and good conduct
- Excellent oral and technical writing skills
- Ability to interface effectively and professionally at all levels
