Founded in 1987, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 1,900,000 patients in 45 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to strengthen access to quality treatment for HIV/
AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). AHF Malawi is providing these services in 27 hard-to-reach health facilities in Dedza, Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Chikwawa, and Nsanje Districts.
To accomplish its goals in the nation, AHF Malawi is seeking highly qualified and experienced candidates for the following employment opportunities.
Medical Assistant
Position Title: Medical Assistant
Reports to: Clinic Officer
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to both pediatric and adult clients in AHF Malawi clinics; and acts as clinic team lead for AHF at site level.
- Ensure compliance with productivity standards by coordinating patient scheduling.
- Collaborate with government staff in the delivery of quality services to all clients.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat HIV related diseases of infants, children, and adults.
- Determine need for patient examinations and laboratory investigations and be able to interpret findings and test results.
- Advise patients’ concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
- Assist counselors with disclosure of HIV status to pediatric clients.
- Prepare and review case histories and clinical records of infants, children, and adults.
- Support the clinic in establishing effective linkages and referral of patients within and outside the facility.
- Attend some of clinic case conferences to discuss difficult patients.
- Work with the clinic team to accommodate urgent care/walk-in patients.
- Work with the responsible staff to ensure all reports needed from the sites are processed and sent to AHF Malawi office in a timely manner.
- Work with government staff to ensure all supplies required for the smoothing running of the clinic are always available.
Qualification, experience, and other attributes
- Certificate in Clinical Medicine with a minimum of five or more years’ experience in HIV care and treatment.
- Must be trained in pediatric and adult HIV Management.
- Must have a sound knowledge in the basic medical disciplines to allow for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of clinical problems.
- Knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV related diseases.
- Previous experience working in an NGO setting and in partnership with government institutions.
- Registered with Medical Council of Malawi
- Be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point presentation
