ABOUT THERE IS HOPE
There is Hope is a Christian Non-Governmental Organization which was registered under the Malawi Trustees Incorporation Act on 31 December 2007. We are a member of NGO Board and CONGOMA (Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi).
With a private grant from the Bauer Charity Foundation through Welthungerhilfe Malawi (WHH), There is Hope (TIH) is implementing a 36-month project called Skills Up!
There is Hope is therefore looking for Master Crafters (1 in Carpentry and Joinery and 1 in Fabrication and Welding) to assist in the Social Business Enterprise at its Vocational Training Centre at Lilambwe near Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa District. Those who meet the job requirements can apply. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews. Qualified women are encouraged to apply.
Master Crafters roles and responsibilities
- Conceptualize and design unique handmade products
- Source and purchase high-quality materials for crafting projects
- Use a range of hand tools and equipment in the crafting process
- Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of crafting tools and equipment
- Create prototypes and refine designs based on feedback or personal evaluation
- Facilitate package and transportation of finalized products to customers or retail outlets
- Maintain an inventory of completed products, materials, and supplies
- Communicate with customers and handle custom orders
- Attend craft fairs or trade shows to showcase products
- Implement marketing strategies to promote their crafts, including leveraging social media platforms
- Stay updated on craft trends and techniques to ensure products remain relevant and competitive
- Provide guidance, coaching, mentorship and support to participants.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery or Welding and Fabrication.
- Good customer care
- Sales and marketing skills
- Negotiation skills
- Problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chichewa.
- Experience in running a business.
- 2 to 3 years’ work experience in a similar role.
- A good understanding of the TVET system in Malawi will be added advantage.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
