Mass Net Distribution 2024

The Ministry of Health and its partners will conduct a mass net distribution in 2024, targeting all 29 districts in Malawi. The goal of this campaign is to achieve universal coverage in the fight against malaria, distributing approximately 12 million nets to a population of 19.6 million people. The Ministry of Health has secured funding from the Global Fund to support this initiative. The campaign will span over nine months and will involve various activities at different stages.

The Ministry of Health now invites applications from suitably qualified Malawians with the appropriate skills, knowledge, and attitude to be engaged on temporary contracts for the following positions:

Mass Campaign Coordinators (25)

Location: 24 positions tenable at District Health Offices and 1 at the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in Lilongwe.

Job Summary:

The Mass Campaign Coordinator will assist in overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of
the 2024 mass net distribution project in Malawi. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient distribution of mosquito nets to vulnerable communities by supporting project planning, logistics, community engagement, financial management, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with district health offices, community leaders, the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), PIU and other stakeholders throughout the project cycle to ensure the success of the mass campaign and achieve project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing detailed plans for the mass net distribution campaign.
  • Coordinate with district health offices, community leaders, and other stakeholders to
    e n s u r e smooth execution of campaign activities.
  • Collaborate with the NMCP and other relevant bodies.
  • Assist in the distribution of mosquito nets to communities, ensuring their proper storage,
    transportation, and handling.
  • Monitor distribution progress and address any challenges.
  • Sensitize communities about the importance of using mosquito nets for malaria prevention and conduct awareness campaigns.
  • Draft requests for activity implementation and ensure transparent financial practices, including expense tracking and reporting.
  • Work closely with District Accountants and district teams to handle financial transactions and process liquidations after activity implementation.
  • Assist in net reconciliation post-distribution and coordinate district review meetings.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports and maintain accurate records of distribution activities, challenges, and achievements.
  • Assist in training field staff, volunteers, and community health workers involved in the campaign.
  • Foster a sense of ownership and commitment among team members.
  • Collaborate with other health programs and organizations to leverage resources and expertise.
  • Attend relevant meetings and workshops to stay informed about best practices.

Professional and Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Management, Environmental Health, Project Management, or equivalent field from a reputable university.
  • A minimum of 2 years of working experience in public health program management or project management within a busy organization implementing commodity distributions or other related fields in the public health sector.
  • Good knowledge of net distributions in Malawi or other sub-Saharan countries.
  • Experience in the implementation of Gavi/Global Fund-funded grants is an added advantage.
  • Competency in both structured and unstructured reporting requirements.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, essential for effective coordination and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work under extreme pressure and deliver within tight deadlines.
