Introduction and Background

The Cannabis Regulatory Authority (CRA) is a statutory body established under the Cannabis Regulation Act 2020, to regulate the Cannabis industry in Malawi. It is the principal agency responsible for licensing and regulating medicinal and industrial hemp in Malawi. CRA is mandated to license all activities across the Cannabis value chain such as cultivation, processing, distribution, storage, exportation, importation, research, laboratory tests and medical use of Cannabis. In order to fulfil its mandate effectively and efficiently with strategic leadership and management, an opportunity has arisen to engage a qualified person of Malawian origin to fill one of the key positions at CRA which will be tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe. CRA invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the advertised positions.

Following are details of the position:

VACANCY: Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager

Grade: CRA 3

Job Purpose:

To promote and market cannabis, civic educate the populace, manage communications and portray a good image of the Authority to stakeholders.

Key roles and responsibilities

a) Planning, implementing and managing marketing, internal and external communications,
civic education and public relations programmes;
b) Overseeing the dissemination of information about programs, plans, events and activities to news media and responding to media queries about the same;
c) Taking lead in the development and review of marketing, promotional, public relations, civic education and communications materials that reflect the brand and desired messages in consultation with the Heads of Directorates or Divisions;
d) Ensuring that relevant information through newsletters, circular, media, website and other platforms is properly prepared and circulated;
e) Developing program management schedule to ensure news and events are current and reflect CRA’s Strategic direction;
f) Coordinating the preparation and distribution of electronic communications and marketing including e-promotional materials, e-invites and information updates for CRA events and activities;
g) Overseeing the maintenance and review of internal and external communication portals such as website, newsletters and social media pages;
h) Evaluating the effectiveness of all communication, marketing, civic education and public relations activities;
i) Consolidating and submitting progress reports;
j) Appraising performance of staff under charge.

Minimum academic and professional qualifications and experience

  • Masters’ Degree in Mass Communication/Journalism/Marketing, Business Administration,
    Charted Marketing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Mass Communication/Journalism and Business Administration
  • At least 6 years’ experience in a related field.
