STAFF VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the post of Marketing and Communications Manager. The Marketing and Communications Manager will provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing LUANAR’s marketing and communication strategies. The role is essential in promoting the university’s brand, reputation, academic programs, and research activities, both nationally and internationally.
The Manager will be responsible for creating and executing campaigns that effectively engage students, stakeholders, and the wider public, while fostering strong relationships with media and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and articulate a vision and strategic direction for the University’s marketing and communications activities, aligned with institutional priorities and objectives.
- Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing plans and communication strategies to promote the University’s brand, programs, and initiatives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the marketing and communications team, setting goals, establishing priorities, and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Oversee the University’s brand identity, messaging, and visual standards to ensure consistency and alignment across all communication channels and touchpoints.
- Conduct market research, audience segmentation, and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for differentiation and positioning in the higher education marketplace.
- Develop and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns to promote admissions, enrollment, fundraising, academic programs, and institutional initiatives.
- Serve as the University’s media liaison, cultivating relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers to generate positive media coverage.
- Prepare press releases, media statements, and talking points for University leadership on key announcements, events, and initiatives.
- Oversee the University’s digital presence, including the website, social media platforms, email marketing, and online content distribution channels.
- Develop content strategies, editorial calendars, and engagement tactics to grow audience reach, increase brand awareness, and foster community engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, agencies, and industry organizations to leverage resources and expertise in support of marketing initiatives.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by relevant authorities.
Minimum Qualifications and Other Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar preferably in an institution of higher learning.
- Extensive experience in marketing and communications, preferably within a higher education or large organizational setting.
- Proven track record in developing and executing strategic marketing plans, including digital marketing, media relations, and branding.
- Experience in managing communication campaigns, public relations, and internal and external stakeholder engagement.
- Strong understanding of market research, analytics, and digital marketing tools
- Knowledge of strategic planning, financial management, resource allocation, and project management
- Experience in liaising with government bodies, industry partners, and other academic institutions.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
The successful candidate shall be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. The position comes with an attractive compensation package in accordance with the LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023), which includes competitive salary, benefits, and other entitlements as applicable.
