Lindian Resources Ltd, a leader in the exploration and development of strategic minerals for energy efficiency, has obtained the necessary licenses to launch a rare earths mineral mining project at Kangankunde, Balaka District, Malawi.

Recognized as one of the top hard rock rare earths deposits globally, the site is located about 30 km from the town of Balaka. Construction of a stage 1 development will commence in Q3 2024, with production expected to start in mid-2025. The mine boasts an estimated life of over 100 years with expansion plans following the commissioning of Stage 1. Initial efforts will concentrate on the development of the management and senior team to undertake operational readiness activities
and establishing robust systems to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Exciting mine-based opportunities exist with Lindian Resources as we commence the recruitment of key roles in our organisational structure, these include General Manager Operations, Manager Mining, Manager Plant & Engineering, Manager Environment & Community, Manager Business Services, Senior Mine Geologist, Site Manager and Health & Safety Officer.

MANAGER PLANT AND ENGINEERING

PURPOSE OF ROLE

Overseeing the extraction of rare earth elements. This leadership role will be tasked with navigating the complexities of extraction, optimal process functioning, with careful consideration for safety,
health, and environment within a sustainable supply chain.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion safety initiatives, ensuring both employee and contractor safety, and surpassing SHEC standards.
  • Maintain strict compliance with statutory and company health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Comply with environmental standards to minimise impacts from processing and waste materials, including tailings.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine strategies, policies, and procedures across the processing supply chain to improve process efficiency and enhanced recovery, through the application of sustainable practices.
  • Maintenance management to achieve plant reliability and throughput targets.
  • Build, manage, and lead a multi-disciplinary in-country team to achieve operational goals, fostering a culture of excellence and efficiency.
  • Oversee the financial and commercial performance of the processing department, including budgeting, cost management, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain efficient document management systems; produce and review standard operational reports including weekly, monthly, and annual updates to monitor costs against budget/forecasts.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships, as well as ensuring strong communication links with key internal and external stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE

  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant field such as Mineral Processing, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Qualifications / certifications in project management, and a Leadership Development Programme would be advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant working experience, and a minimum of 3-4 years of direct experience working with mineral sands and/orrare earth elements.
  • Experience in comminution processing, gravity and magnetic separation circuits.
  • Senior Management experience with demonstrated leadership capability.
  • Experience in project management and operational readiness, with a strong track record in Africa and Greenfields projects, is crucial.
