Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM)

Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical umbrella association co-owned by
Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Malawi Council of Churches. CHAM is the second largest provider
of health services in Malawi. It has 187 Health Facilities and 11 Training Colleges which are located
in hard-to-reach areas across the country. The objective of CHAM in general is to provide technical
support, and develop health services among all its member facilities in order to achieve equity and
universal access to health care, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi especially in the poor and
hard to reach rural areas.

With funding from USAID Presidents Malaria Initiative (PMI), CHAM invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant position of Malaria Technical Lead for the Towards Malaria Elimination (TOME) Project. The TOME project is jointly implemented by CHAM in consortium with DAPP Malawi and supports the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) on malaria case management in Salima and Lilongwe (Rural) Districts.

Position: MALARIA TECHNICAL LEAD

Reports to: Director of Health Programs

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Spearheading the comprehensive coordination of project case management, offering expert
guidance in malaria case management, integrated Community Case Management (iCCM), and
Malaria in Pregnancy (MiP) interventions.
2. Fostering collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and District Health
Management Teams (DHMTs) to strategize, execute, and disseminate project performance and
outcomes effectively.
3. Designing the project’s work plan, managing budgets, and compiling quarterly and annual
reports.
4. Forging robust partnerships with malaria program donors and key stakeholders, ensuring
seamless alignment of project objectives with overarching goals.
5. Providing support to DAPP Malawi and project leadership, offering strategic insights and
operational guidance to ensure the project’s smooth functioning.
6. Collaborating with USAID/PMI to design innovative tools, strategies, and initiatives aimed at
enhancing patient outcomes and advancing project objectives.
7. Tracking progress of all project activities against established work plans and preparing comprehensive reports to monitor project performance.
8. Serving as a representative of the project and CHAM in pertinent malaria programming meetings
convened by stakeholders, the Ministry of Health, and other implementing partners.
9. Updating stakeholders, health authorities, and senior management on project activities, progress,
and achievements to foster transparency and accountability.
10. Engaging in a collaborative review of monitoring and evaluation tools with the project monitoring
team, ensuring continuous refinement and enhancement to optimize project impact and
effectiveness.
11. Leading the development of grant proposals focused on malaria prevention, control, and
eradication efforts through collaborations with subject matter experts and the CHAM Business
Development Unit.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Master’s Degree in a health-related field
2. At least 5 to 10 years professional experience in malaria programming and implementation
3. Should be familiar with malaria case management programming
4. Experience in conducting Outreach Training and Supportive Supervision approaches (OTSS).
5. Strong understanding of malaria epidemiology, prevention strategies, and control measures.

Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

1. Good interpersonal skills and team player.
2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
3. Good presentation skills
4. Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
