Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

We are currently seeking qualified professionals for the following positions:

Local Governance and Education Liaison

Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks a Local Governance and Education Liaison for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi. The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of Malawi’s lower primary students.

This is a long-term position that will be based in Zomba, Malawi.

Responsibilities include:

•    Liaise and coordinate with other regional team members to ensure regional and departmental coordination of NextGen activities

•    Build and maintain strong relationships with local traditional leaders, local authorities, teachers, and other key actors and stakeholders to ensure the realization of activities in addition to communication aspects

•    Develop and provide presentations to a range of stakeholders using appropriate tools

•    Assist in the collection of monitoring data related to parent and community involvement in early grade reading delivery

•    Represent NextGen in meetings and events at the regional and district level.

Qualifications:

•    Secondary school degree.

•    At least 5 years’ experience managing people and interacting with local level government including district and school education management personnel.

•    A sound understanding of the education sector in Malawi.

•    Demonstrated capacity to function as a successful community activist and a solid understanding of approaches to community mobilization, preferably around education matters.

•    Access to a network of stakeholders and the demonstrated ability to build networks and alliances with a range of stakeholders.

•    Demonstrated understanding of social equity considerations including integration of gender and disability and socio-economic sensitivity or willingness to participate in training.

•    Willingness to travel frequently throughout Malawi.

•    Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

•    Proven experience building relationships and facilitating learning about how to improve project work preferred.

•    Written and spoken proficiency in English and Chichewa.
