AHL Group Plc is inviting applications from suitably qualified, highly motivated and interested candidates for the position of Legal Officer tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe.

POSITION FUNCTION

The successful candidate will report to the Legal.Services Manager and will be responsible for provision of legal advice, ensure regulatory
compliance and represent the Company and its Subsidiaries in all Courts in Malawi.

 

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Amongst other duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Draftng Court documents and representing the company and its subsidiaries in all Courts of law,
  • Providing legal advice to the Group and its subsidiaries
  • Drafting and reviewing facility documentation, tenancy agreements, contracts and other legal instruments;
  • Reviewing cases and providing sound legal opinions, advise and recommend appropriate legal solutions,
  • Regulatory compliance
  • compliance with the Tobacco industry laws,
  • Workplace regulations and iaWs in general
  • Liaising closely with the heads of subsidiaries to identify legal service requirements for smooth delivery of legai solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from an accredited University.
  • Admitted to practice Law in the Supreme Court of Malawi, High Court and Courts Subordinate thereto;
  • Possession of a valid legal practitioner’s licence
  • At least five (6) years post admission experience
  • Demonstrable experience of providing effective legal counsel
  • Demonstrable experience in handling litigation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to clearly present complex situations,
  • Excellent trial advocacy skills
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework of the tobacco industry
  • Excellent legal research and analyticai skills;
  • Relationship management skills and ability to lead and work with teams.
