INTRODUCTION
Nyale Institute for Sexual and Reproductive Health Governance (Nyale Institute), a non-governmental organization founded in 2013, is dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive justice (SRJ) in Malawi through enhanced collaboration with the government and stakeholders. The Institute also promotes gender equality and social inclusion within its mission. Our offices are in Blantyre, Malawi. Nyale Institute is now inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates, with a particular encouragement for women and underrepresented groups, to apply for the following vacant positions.
LEGAL MANAGER
Location: Blantyre
Reporting to: The Executive Director
Job Purpose:
The Legal Manager will lead and manage the organization’s legal activities, including litigation, legal advice, and advocacy related to sexual and reproductive rights and gender justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise litigation, including preparing legal documents, representing the organization in court, and coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary.
- Provide legal advice to staff and stakeholders on issues related to human rights, gender equality, and reproductive justice.
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing the organization’s activities.
- Represent Nyale Institute in legal matters and contribute to advocacy efforts.
- Supervise legal staff and provide training and mentorship.
- Develop legal strategies to support organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders on legal reform and human rights issues.
Qualifications:
- A Law degree and a practicing license in Malawi.
- At least 3 years of experience in legal practice, including human rights law.
- Experience in litigation, legal research, and drafting legal documents.
- A strong understanding or interest in sexual and reproductive justice.
- Excellent advocacy and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple legal cases.
