Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate/ Professor/Professor in Film Production (um 7) (1 position)

 

Qualifications and Attributes

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Candidates applying for the Lecturer position must hold a Master’s or PhD in Film Productiom/Film Studies/Communication or related field along with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum award of credit.

  • For the positions of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor, candidates must have a strong record of publications in their area of expertise and demonstrate initiative in research, community outreach, and engagement, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above.

  • A proven track record of industry experience

  • Work on film production as any or a combination of these: Producer, Cinematographer, Director, Scenographic Designer, Sound Recording Engineer, Costume Designer, Make Up Artist, Film Marketer and Distributor, Music Score Composer, Director of Art, Director of Photography.

Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Leadership and Programme Management

  • Provide academic leadership and coordinate postgraduate programmes in the relevant subject area, including curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead the conceptualisation and implementation of practical productions and projects for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in drama, theatre, film, and related disciplines.

  • Offer academic leadership through innovation and mentoring, particularly at the levels of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor.

Teaching, Supervision, and Student Support

  • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students, including setting and timely marking of examinations and coursework.

  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research and practical projects.

  • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and tutoring to students, supporting their academic and professional development.

Departmental Administration and Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to the administration of the department and actively participate in departmental, school, and university committees and meetings.

  • Play a key role in departmental and institutional strategic planning processes, including developing strategies to maximise student recruitment and enhance programme visibility.

  • Coordinate departmental activities such as open days, applicant visits, and student-facing events.

Research, Innovation, and Professional Development

  • Engage in individual and collaborative research, contribute to peer-reviewed publications, and pursue scholarly advancement for personal growth and institutional profile enhancement.

  • Develop and participate in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research groups and joint publications.

  • Engage in continuous professional development and remain up to date with developments in the field.

Industry and Community Engagement

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local and international industry stakeholders for collaborative projects, exchange programmes, and research initiatives.

  • Conceptualise and implement outreach programmes and departmental events in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Act as an ambassador for the department, school, and university, and participate in regional and international academic and professional engagements.

Resource Mobilisation and Promotion

  • Engage in resource mobilisation to support academic, research, and outreach activities.

  • Contribute to the promotion of the department externally and build networks internally and externally to raise the research and teaching profile of the department and university.

Other Duties

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department, Executive Dean, or Vice Chancellor, including tasks aligned with the evolving needs of the University.

  • Be prepared to work at any university location as required.

Professional Practice

  • Engage with external networks relevant to film, television and photography producing.

  • Disseminate practice expertise through workshops or seminars or in other relevant forms.

  • Engage in a range of activities relevant to the development of professional practice in film production and photography producing.

  • To develop and implement innovative strategies for industry informed teaching.

Adjunct Positions

Professional artists and media experts with a strong market and industry track record are invited to apply for adjunct positions in the department. Placement will be based on assessments of professional work, years of experience, and practice, evaluated through submitted CVs, portfolios, and recommendations from two referees.
