PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Government of Malawi has received funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB),
towards the implementation of the Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture Development and Watershed Management (SFAD-WM) project. The Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources through the Department of Fisheries. The project aims to contribute towards poverty reduction through improved fish commodity value addition and increased consumption, strengthened nutritional security, and build climate resilience in Malawi.

One of the strategies for attainment of the project’s objectives is to build the capacity of the
youth through a graduate internship program. The internship program seeks to recruit graduates and Masters students in the field of aquaculture, fisheries, food science, nutrition, agribusiness, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering to be attached to fisheries institutions, aquaculture business firms and fish farmers involved in the implementation of the SFAD-WM Project across the country. The internship program is going to be for a period of 6 months, non-renewable.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

i. A first degree or above from a recognised university in any of the following disciplines: fisheries and aquaculture, agribusiness, food processing, nutrition, marketing, mechanical and electrical engineering.
ii. Must have graduated within the last 4years (2019-2022)
iii. Provide recommendation/ reference letter from the University attended.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Must be team player and have the ability to solve problems
  • A person of integrity
  • Must be computer proficient

Deadline for application is 6th November, 2023

Qualified and interested applicants should send cover letter specifying the knowledge area on the subject and stating the reason for your interest in the internship program and Curriculum Vitae of maximum 3 pages with three referees one should be from the graduating institution.

i. This is not a salaried post and the project will only facilitate predetermined stipends, as stipulated by Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training Internship Program.
ii. SFAD-WM will not offer employment after the completion of the internship
