Organisation Background
Export Development Fund (EDF) is a development finance institution (DFI) mandated to promote the growth as well as diversification of the country’s exports. EDF’s mission is to support the Malawi economy through provision of foreign trade solutions to facilitate export diversification, international competitiveness and inclusive growth. EDF also plays a leading role in job creation by investing in ambitious projects and initiatives, with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of Malawi’s exports.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for energetic and innovative individual to join EDF. We are therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position:
Internal Audit Officer
Reporting to the Internal Audit Specialist, the Internal Audit Officer is responsible for conducting audit assignments, with a view to assess adequacy of EDF’s internal control systems, regulatory requirements, and highlight any exceptions or violations.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Conduct risk assessments for audit universe development and update.
- Develop and implement risk-based annual internal audit plans.
- Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and verify agreed corrective actions completed by management.
- Contribute to the safeguarding of the Fund’s assets, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and promoting operational excellence.
- Develop audit tests and evaluation programs, execute the audit tests, ensuring quality and report on the test results under the direction of the Internal Audit Specialist.
- Carry out internal and external investigations into cases of alleged fraud and/or serious negligence and provide advice to management on corrective actions, as appropriate and in accordance with the Fund’s policies and procedures
- Contribute to systems development work within the Fund, providing independent advice regarding appropriate levels of internal controls and facilitating effective management of risks.
- Execute identified and planned advisory engagements in accordance with lIA Standards.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Attributes are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree in Internal Auditing or equivalent from a recognized
- Must have completed or studying towards a relevant professional qualification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
- Minimum of 3 years’ internal audit or external audit practice preferably in the financial services sector.
- Practical knowledge and proficiency in applying the lIA’s IPPF (International Professional Practices Framework).
- Experience in evaluating systems and processes, identifying weaknesses and improvement areas.
- Computer fluency; highly competent using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience working in complex financial systems.
