Partners in Hope (PIH) is a Malawian, Christ-centered, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2001 on a robust commitment to support the National HIV and AIDS Response in Malawi. PIH has a Medical Centre that operates a general clinic (Dalitso); inpatient ward (Thandizo); an HIV and AIDS clinic (Moyo); and providing support to Ministry of Health, CHAM and Private health facilities in Nine districts.

PIH under the Client Oriented Response for HIV Epidemic Control (CORE) mechanism and Respond Project: Precise and responsive testing and linkage interventions is seeking to recruit highly motivated individuals under Science department to be deployed in Lilongwe:

IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE DATA MANAGER (1 POSITION) – LILONGWE

Job Overview

The Data Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing all data-related activities within the Implementation Science Department at PIH. The Department is responsible for implementing scientific activities across various projects, including USAID grants and non-USAID research collaborations with esteemed funders such as NIH, BMGF, CHAI, and others. We are searching for an exceptional Data Manager who possesses a deep passion for developing and implementing data science solutions that have a tangible impact on patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to strengthening data management and analytical capacity within Malawi, contributing to advancements in healthcare research and delivery.

She/he will lead data management activities within studies conducted at PIH, working closely with the Senior Science Manager to ensure the successful execution of projects.

Responsibilities

1. Oversee all Data Systems for PIH’s Implementation Science Department.

2. Oversee all data systems within the PIH Implementation Science Department to facilitate data collection, storage, cleaning and analysis.

3. Develop and maintain data management guidelines and SOPs for the department. Priority protocols are for data management, quality control and security, and monitoring.

4. Identify overall data-related needs for current and upcoming projects, in collaboration with larger study teams (i.e., Senior Science Manager, Principle Investigators, Coordinators).

5. Support the development of study proposals/concepts to ensure study design and data protocols are clear, adequate, and relevant.

6. Serve as a troubleshooter and provide guidance to study teams on data analysis and interpretation, as needed.

Implementation Science Department.

1. Oversee hiring of data field staff, as needed.
2. Manage data team’s time and project allocation across study activities.
3. Oversee Data Coordinators’ and provide support on their core activities, including:

  • Develop study specific data management, quality control, security and monitoring protocols;
  • Develop e-data collection tools that are (a) user friendly and meet study needs; and (b) are tested to ensure data consistency and accuracy;
  • Rigorous implementation of data protocols;
  • Implementing appropriate data download, storage and sharing procedures;
  • Develop data quality and monitoring reports (including STATA .do files);
  • Conduct preliminary analyses and complete results tables;

4. Facilitate in-service capacity development related to data management, data analysis, and quantitative writing.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, or other relevant fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing research data.
  • Experience in health research and managing data from clinical trials (including medical chart data) and implementation science studies preferred.
  • Strong skillsets in data analysis, statistical methods and data visualization Preferred
  • Strong background in statistics with a sound proficiency in data analysis packages preferably STATA, R and/or Python.
  • Experience working in infectious diseases research preferred, preferably HIV/AIDS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), e-data collection packages (ODK or SurveyCTO).
  • Initiative and ability to develop and support data management strategies and solve problems independently
  • Experience and passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of data scientists
