STAFF VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications
from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following vacant posts in various
establishments of the University.

ICT USER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Technical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide first-line support for hardware and software issues encountered by end-users, including desktop and laptop computers, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to operating systems, software applications, and network connectivity.
  • Assist in setting up and configuring new computers, peripherals, and user accounts.

2. User Assistance and Training

  • Other technical guidance to users on how to use ICT tools, systems, and software applications efficiently.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff , faculty, and students on basic computer skills, common applications, and network usage.
  • Assist users with email setup, password resets, and account management.

3. System Maintenance and Monitoring

  • Perform routine maintenance on hardware, including software updates, operating system patches, and hardware upgrades.
  • Monitor the status of computers, printers, and network systems, ensuring they operate at optimal performance levels.
  • Report any recurring issues or system inefficiencies to the ICT Manager for further investigation.

4. Installation and Configuration

  • Assist in the installation and configuration of hardware (desktops, laptops, printers) and
    software (operating systems, applications).
  • Ensure that all systems are compliant with LUANAR’s ICT policies regarding software licensing and usage.
  • Set up network accounts, email accounts, and ensure proper network access configurations for users.

5. Software and Hardware Upgrades

  • Assist with the roll-out of new hardware, software applications, and system upgrades as
    directed by the ICT department.
  • Ensure that all devices are updated with the latest security patches and software updates.

6. Collaboration

  • Work closely with other ICT team members to resolve complex technical issues and provide input on ICT strategies for user support.
  • Coordinate with external vendors or service providers when necessary for hardware repairs or specialized technical support.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT support, preferably in an academic or corporate environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with users at all levels, providing clear instructions and explanations.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and attention to detail.
  • A customer-oriented approach, ensuring users’ needs are met promptly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of IT security practices and data protection policies.

Terms and Conditions of Engagement

All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service applicable to staff on fixed-term contract
