The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications
from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following vacant posts in various
establishments of the University.
ICT NETWORKING TECHNICIAN
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Network Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and maintain LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), and Wi-Fi networks on campus.
- Set up network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and other related devices.
- Ensure network connectivity throughout LUANAR’s different campuses and buildings.
2. Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Regularly monitor network performance to ensure the network operates smoothly without disruptions.
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues for users and devices.
- Respond to and resolve any network-related failures or performance degradation quickly to minimize downtime.
- Conduct routine maintenance of networking equipment and infrastructure.
3. Network Security
- Assist in the implementation of network security measures to protect against potential
cybersecurity threats. - Monitor the network for any unauthorized access, breaches, or vulnerabilities and take proactive action to mitigate risks.
- Ensure all network devices are updated with the latest firmware and security patches.
4. User Support and Training
- Provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students facing network connectivity or
performance issues. - Assist in training users on basic troubleshooting techniques, network policies, and best
practices for using the network resources. - Set up and maintain network user accounts, assign IP addresses, and configure access
controls.
5. Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with the ICT department to plan and implement network upgrades, expansions, and improvements.
- Coordinate with external vendors or contractors during major installations, repairs, or upgrades.
- Stay updated on new networking technologies and recommend appropriate solutions to enhance network performance.
6. Network Optimization and Monitoring
- Use network monitoring tools to assess network performance, identify bottlenecks, and
recommend solutions to improve efficiency. - Evaluate and implement traffic management techniques to prioritize critical applications
and optimize bandwidth utilization.
7. Hardware and Sofware Management
- Assist in managing the procurement and installation of network-related hardware and
software. - Ensure all network hardware and software assets are managed and maintained according to LUANAR’s ICT policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; relevant certifications preferred.
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, or
equivalent are highly desirable. - Minimum of 3 years of experience in network installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, preferably in an educational institution or corporate setting.
- Proficiency in working with networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and software.
- Experience in configuring and maintaining TCP/IP networks, DHCP, DNS, and VPN service.
- Strong technical expertise in network infrastructure management.
- Knowledge of network security protocols and firewall configurations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring high availability and reliable network performance.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff , faculty, and students.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and network diagnostic utilities
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service applicable to staff on fixed-term contract
