National Water Resources Authority

The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) is a statutory organization established by the Water Resources Act of 2013 with a specific function to regulate and manage water
resources. Furthermore, the NWRA seeks to ensure the sustainable use of water resources
and address the water resources planning, development and management challenges.

In its effort to sustainably manage water resources, the NWRA seeks to recruit energetic,
highly motivated, focused and result-oriented individuals to form part of its NWRA members of staff. In this regard, NWRA invites applications from suitable qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position:

 

 

Purpose of the Job
To administer, coordinate programs and activities relating to surface water resources management  and conservation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Apply research findings to help minimize the environmental impacts of pollution, water-borne diseases, erosion, and sedimentation.
    2. Compile and evaluate hydrologic information.
    3. Conduct research and communicate information to promote the conservation and preservation of water resources.
    4. Design and conduct scientific hydrological investigations to ensure that accurate and appropriate information is available for use in water resource management decisions.
    5. Evaluate research data in terms of its impact on issues such as still and water conservation, flood control planning, and water supply forecasting.
    6. Measure and graph phenomena such as lake levels, stream flows, and changes in water volumes.
    7. Study and document quantities, distribution, disposition, and development of underground and surface waters.
    8. Study public water supply issues, including flood and drought risks, water quality, wastewater, and impacts on wetland habitats.
    9. Collect and analyze water samples as part of field investigations and/or to validate data from automatic monitors.
    10. Carryout modelling on surface and water catchment;
    11. Install, maintain, and calibrate instruments such as those that monitor water levels, rainfall, and sediments.
    12. Prepare hydrological evaluations of known or suspected hazardous waste sites and ; land treatment and feedlot facilities.
    13. Review applications for site plans and permits, and recommend approval, denial, modification, or further investigative action.

Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

    • Bachelor of Science Water resource management or Engineering or any water related field
    • Minimum of four (4)years’ work experience on a similar position within a major hydrologic unit, government department or a utility providing institution. Those with experience in water resources modelling will have an added advantage.

Additional Skills and Abilities

    • Self-starter, responsible and good communication skills
    • A team player
    • Should have undergone training in hydrology environmental and social impact assessment
    • Analytical and problem solving skills
    • Computer knowledge in GIS and MS packages
    • Able to work long hours with minimal supervision
